DevOps Engineer, Amazon DynamoDB

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent qualification
  • 4+ years’ of experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering role, preferably in a software environment with Java/J2EE troubleshooting experience
  • In-depth understanding of AWS, Python and Scripting languages
  • Familiarity with database concepts (e.g., Redshift, DynamoDB or Postgres)
  • Well rounded experience with monitoring systems, dashboards (ELK, Splunk, Job Schedulers)
  • Strong understanding of support processes – SLA, handling tickets, monitoring, processes and metrics.
  • Understanding of the complete deployment life cycle from design, build, test, deploy
  • Strong decision-making ability

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop tools and processes to improve the overall efficiency of the support team
  • Work on operations and maintenance driven coding projects, primarily in Java and Python
  • Provide platform support, including operational efficiency improvements, automation of troubleshooting, in depth analysis and troubleshooting of repetitive challenges faced by the support team.
  • Deployment automation and building of CI/CD pipelines

A day in the life

You will be responsible for establishing the DevOps team in Amazon DynamoDB. The team is in nascent stages so you will have the freedom and encouragement to bring in new ideas and tools to the team. You will be part of a focused group of engineers dedicated to improving the tools and processes used in DynamoDB. You will look at innovative solutions that can improve the operational efficiency of DynamoDB by automating day to day tasks, implementing state of the art deployment best practices and leveraging effective monitors and alarms.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, this position requires frequent interaction with senior leadership
  • Exhibit strong team oriented interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface with a wide variety of people and roles from junior engineers to senior leaders
  • Experience in managing high performing team.
  • Experience in development (as a developer or managed development teams) would be a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, successful track record of coordinating between multiple project stakeholders, technical program managers, and software development teams
  • Hands-on experience with agile methodologies and proven leadership skills.
  • The pay range for this position in Colorado is $143,700 - $194,400 / yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
