Position Overview:
Reporting directly into the CFO, the Accountant will be responsible for full end-to-end accounting globally across the company. The person in this role will showcase strengths in attention to detail, organizational expertise, analytical thinking, and time and priority management when preparing and examining accurate financial statements for executive and board reporting.
This role will also serve as a critical business partner to leaders representing all functions and business units across the company. Assistance may include, but is not limited to, ensuring timely payments to vendors and invoices to clients, payroll processing, student collections, cash management, analysis and reporting for regulatory agencies, amongst other critical operational activities. This role will also require technical comfort and know-how with accounting and reporting systems, and come with experience in complex financial environments serving multiple countries, currencies, systems, banks, and key stakeholders.
In addition to possessing essential financial management skills, the Accountant will need to leverage strong stakeholder management skills, interpersonal savvy, customer service, and a strategic mindset, especially when collaborating with the CFO on implementing new systems and processes.
This position is fully remote with preference to be based in Australia
Responsibilities:
- Full end-to-end accounting;
- Daily reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts; assist with preparing weekly cash report/projection;
- Execute accounting functions including billing, accounts payable, cash receipts, payroll, and general ledger;
- Code, approve & input invoices and prepare online payments;
- Process bi-weekly and monthly payrolls for US and Australian employees, including tax filings and compliance;
- Prepare monthly and year-end management reports;
- Responsible for full-cycle A/R; billing, collections, and meeting related metrics;
- Perform all GL Accounting functions related to month and year-end close, including but not limited to posting entries, reconciling accounts, consolidation, variance analysis, and management reports;
- Assist in tracking, reporting, and meeting compliance with Australian Department of Education and Fee-Help regulatory requirements for subsidiary;
- Provide support for external financial statement and compliance audits, including preparation of requested documentation and schedules;
- Assist with annual financial budgets, rolling forecast, budgeting, and year end reporting;
- Responding to queries from our students regarding payment of course fees;
- Prepare statutory reporting, BAS, IAS, Payroll Tax and Workcover;
- Preparation of Superannuation returns including reconciliation of superannuation and any journals required;
- Maintain Fixed Asset Registers for all entities;
- Liaise with external auditors as well as other outside parties as required;
- Maintain integration links to Xero;
- Assist in the implementation of new systems and processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; CPA or equivalent preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a focus on progressively responsible positions
- Proven experience in statutory reporting including; BAS, IAS, Payroll Tax, Workcover, and Superannuation
- Direct experience managing payroll, AR/AP for medium sized organization
- Proficient in posting journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, accruals, and building high quality working papers
- Proven ability to prepare accurate and timely financial statements for presentation to management
- Direct experience working with intercompany transactions and consolidation, preferably with a multinational organization
- Experience preparing for, and coordinating, an external audit
- Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements
- High attention to detail, critical thinking, problem solving, and strong analytical skills
- Advanced Excel skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
- Exceptionally motivated team player with a demonstrated customer service mindset and willingness to help when needed
- Expert at stakeholder management, time management, organization, attention to detail and accuracy
- Hands on experience using accounting and finance software; proficiency with Xero desirable
- Experience in Education or EdTech industries a plus
