Accounting Manager

Accounting Manager - up to 60k dependent on experience. This position is remote and open to applicants in the UK. We cannot sponsor any visas for this role.

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen in Linnworks' growing Global Finance team. This is an all-encompassing role where the successful candidate will have exposure to a variety of responsibilities across entities in the UK, USA, and Estonia. This is primarily a remote role. Occasional travel to our Head Office in Chichester may be required (for example, onboarding and occasional team days in the office).

What you'll be doing

  • Managing accounting preparations/operations (Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Employee Expenses, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Prepaids, Accruals, General Ledger, and Revenue Recognition), ensuring all balance sheet accounts have appropriate supporting documentation. 
  • Preparing and publishing timely monthly/quarterly/year-end consolidated management accounts. Preparing and reviewing annual statutory accounts. 
  • Performing detailed analysis of the company's internal controls, identifying weaknesses and rolling out control remediations.
  • Documenting business processes and accounting policies when appropriate (or keeping them up to date) to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Driving automation of routine processes. 
  • Administering payroll, including payroll compliance, and handling queries related to payroll. Administering the UK pension scheme. 
  • Ensuring all financial reporting is compliant with statutory law and financial regulations (VAT, PAYE, etc).
  • Supervising and managing the Accounting team and collaborating when required with other business functions.
  • Responding to inquiries from the CFO, Head of FP&A, Head of Finance, HR, Legal and company wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests etc.
  • Co-ordinating and liaising with the auditors and managing the Group's audit engagement providing high quality information, ensuring the audits are completed on time and with ever-reducing number of audit differences.
  • Managing ad hoc projects (cross functional process improvements, implementation of new tools…).

What you'll bring to the role

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
  • 5 - 7 years experience, beginning in audit at a Big 4 or top 10 firm, then experience gained in industry, preferably a SaaS business.
  • The ideal candidate demonstrates a sense of urgency. They are ready to roll up their sleeves, tackle issues, and take the initiative to perform tasks without direction. They have a strong curiosity and are hungry to learn new systems, in other words, you independently explore and learn, driving your own growth.
  • A solid understanding of internal control design and operational efficiency. Willing to dive into processes performed by the wider team to identify improvements. 
  • Working understanding of US GAAP and FRS 102, and able to perform a thorough research of accounting issues.
  • Strong systems experience, including MS Excel, Google Sheets and Netsuite knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Payment processing experience: Stripe, GoCardless and Paypal
  • Experience with international intercompany transactions, consolidated management reports and financial statements.
  • Experience administering payroll preferred.
  • Experience with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Exceptional organisational, process management and presentation skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Experience managing and motivating staff, providing guidance on how they can upskill and grow their career. 
  • You are able to work independently to tight month/year-end deadlines in scaleups.

Nice to haves

  • Experience of working in a fast paced start-up or scale-up where you have really been in the detail and driven improvement of the Accounting function during a high growth period would be desirable.
