Job Description

The Accounts Payable Specialist - Payments is an independent, problem-solving, and analytical position, which requires critical and creative thinking skills to develop, execute and resolve invoice payment issues and processes. Possesses a diverse subject matter expertise who coordinates actions to resolve supplier 1099 issues and related vendor master issues directly with the Vendor Master team, Accounts Payable employees, Procurement Category Managers, Buyers and Vericast management. Ensure payment issues are resolved without jeopardizing vendor relationships.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research vendor payment inquiries; create, validate and process all payment proposals issued via Check, ACH, and Virtual Credit Card; work with Management to plan payments; extensive interaction with vendors on all issues regarding payments.
  • Copy or scan documentation as needed to support audit inquiries from internal external or state audit requests.
  • Reconcile accounts or prepare reporting as assigned.
  • Void/Reissue or cancel payments as warranted and research and resolve all returned and stale dates checks.
  • Responsible for 1099 administration, expert knowledge of 1099 requirements, timely submission of 1099 filings, responding to all IRS inquiries and any other 1099 issues.
  • Participate on teams as related to system upgrades, acquisitions, divestitures and any other project work as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Associates degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • 2 or 4 year degree in accounting, finance or other business related field

EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ Years of Experience; Work experience should include previous problem solving for all types of P2P issues, payment processing, 1099 expertise, and audit support
  • Oracle or SAP payments experience required with expert knowledge of AP disbursements and 1099 requirements
  • Previous accounting or bookkeeping experience and ability to reconcile general ledger accounts

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills, including data queries, Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Require above average communication skills as position will communicate with all levels of management, vendors, auditors and government agencies
  • Good organization and communication skills (verbal & written) and time management

DECISION MAKING

This is an independent position which requires the understanding and execution of established policies and creative thinking to further develop and improve processes. Decisions related to resolution of blocked or exception invoices required to enable payment of invoices to suppliers. Decisions related to audit exceptions on consolidated or electronic invoices to ensure proper controls and approvals are in place. Decisions related to resolution of unique vendor situations to allow for payment while maintaining IRS compliance with regard to federal 1099 laws.

Additional Information

Base salary: $50,000-$60,000

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
