Advisory Portfolio Valuations Manager - Business Valuation

Are you interested in helping clients, ranging from medium-sized businesses to large multinational corporations, solve complex business and transaction issues? As a professional in our business valuation practice you will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience working with leading valuation specialists to help our clients understand, analyze, and respond to various business opportunities and challenges.

Deloitte's loan portfolio and debt investment fund valuations undertakes debt valuations for some of the largest global asset managers and financial institutions, advising clients on either standalone transactions or on a periodic basis. As part of our debt valuation work, the team values private debt, structured products, loan portfolios (corporate, residential mortgage, credit card), commercial real estate (CRE) debt and assets, residential mortgage pools, stressed and distressed assets, intercompany trades and private equity, among other asset classes.

Globally, Deloitte assesses valuations for 26% of the top 50 global asset managers and serves nearly 50% of the top 50 real estate companies by revenue.

Work you'll do

You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects within Deloitte Advisory's Valuation practice and further develop your experience as a commercial and technical advisor on critical value related matters, in particular relating to loan portfolios and debt investment funds, which may include:

  • Develop and apply technical and commercial insights in a valuation context
  • Conduct valuations of various illiquid assets (securities, including debt, financial products, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure and large relative holdings in listed companies)
  • Perform independent pricing of financial instruments, including corporate bonds, term loans, middle market loans, structured/securitized products (including Asset-Backed Securities (ABS), Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs), Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) including B-pieces, CRE CLOs, Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities (RMBS), Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Debt, CRE Assets, Residential Mortgage Pools, Margin Loans, Servicing Rights (MSRs, and Private Equity.
  • Developing cash flow models
  • Preparing audit documentation of valuations
  • Collaborating with audit teams across companies of all sizes and across multiple industries
  • Presenting complex information in an understandable manner
  • Validating accuracy of third-party manager reports
  • Assisting with modeling and assessing LP fee agreements
  • Perform detailed credit analysis, ranging from tear sheets to in-depth analysis and valuation studies
  • Valuation for tax purposes, including federal, state, local, international and personal tax, as well as services related to a client's allocation of purchase price for tax purposes only.
  • Consultative services to assist clients with their business plan development, strategic investment decisions, or other financial objectives
  • Assist with other financial reporting valuations such as derivative securities, debt instruments, and Employee Stock Option Plans
  • Valuations for regulatory and compliance purposes

Qualifications Required:

  • 2+ years of business and intangible asset valuation consulting experience
  • 2+ years of valuing debt, equity, and structured securities
  • 2+ years of credit/portfolio analysis
  • Functional understanding of financial statements analysis with the ability to work through key assumptions, implicit caveats, and limitations
  • In-depth understanding of generally accepted valuation approaches: cost, market and income approach
  • Employment of various valuation methodologies such as discounted cash flow, guideline public company/ transaction, excess earnings, relief from royalty, with/without, comparative sales and replacement cost methods, capital asset pricing model, etc.
  • Development of financial models to value common stock, business entities, and intangible assets
  • Conducting in-depth client, economic, industry, and competitor research and statistical/ ratio analysis
  • Preparation/ review of valuation reports, exhibits, letters, and other client deliverables
  • Supervising, training/ developing staff on valuation and client requirements as well as assessing staff performance
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or business
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong team building, interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated technical skills working with financial models
  • Flexibility for potential travel to client sites
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

Preferred:

  • Fair Value experience
  • Master's degree in Finance
  • ASA or CFA

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York City, Jersey City, Colorado, or Nevada, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to New York City, Jersey City, State of Colorado, and the State of Nevada and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $116,648.00 to $194,413.00.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
