Android Engineer II

Posted Jan 22

At Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our three products: Everand, Scribd, and Slideshare.

We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.

It is through our flexible work benefit – Scribd Flex – that we enable employees, in partnership with their manager, to choose the work-style that best suits their individual needs and preferences. And, we create intentional in-person moments with each other that build culture and connection.

About the team:

Discovery Experience is a new applications focused team enabling our 2 million subscribers to discover exciting content through two key apps: Everand and Scribd. The Everand app is a gateway for our users to access an expansive library of over 7 million titles, including ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, and magazine articles, offering a Netflix-like experience. Meanwhile, the Scribd app provides access to an extensive collection of over 100 million user-uploaded documents, including PDFs and other formats.

About the role:

In the role of Android Engineer, you will be instrumental in maintaining the stability and performance of the search and discovery functionality of these apps. Your responsibilities will include working across our codebase to push the product roadmap forward and also to enhance code quality and engineering practices.

In addition to building the app, the person in this role will also be instrumental in working with our partner Android team. Communication across teams is an important and required part of what success looks like for us, in order to collectively build the best experience possible for our customers.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience building Android apps with some exposure to Kotlin.
  • Experience designing and building APIs, working with relevant backend teams
  • Excellent technical and non-technical communication - We are a remote, distributed team, this is a key requirement for success 🙂
  • Expertise in building complex UI for multiple devices
  • Experience with JUnit or other testing frameworks
  • Experience working on a shared codebase in a team environment
  • Experience writing consistent, readable, and developer-friendly code.
