Associate Editor, one5c
one5c is a climate-action publication under Fragment Media Group aimed at helping our audience identify specific ways they can combat the environmental crisis. We are a fully remote company (though we’re currently all based in New York) that currently gets its words out through newsletters and social media, but we’re aiming to expand. That’s where you come in.
one5c is hiring an Associate Editor to help us save the world. Hero complexes welcome. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the Associate Editor will lend day-to-day editorial support to one5c across its channels. This includes editing our contributors, writing, and helping to manage the day-to-day goings-on of a growing digital media publication—be that fact-checking, light project management, or optimizing stories. That covers the near term, but one5c is an extremely small team that’s set to evolve quickly. Like everyone else on the team, our Associate Editor will need to be a fountain of ideas, dive headfirst into new platforms, and be comfortable learning and adapting along the way. You should crave a job that feels different every day, and comes with that “I’m doing something about the literal biggest problem in the world” buzz.
You will need to:
- Help build out and maintain an editorial calendar.
- Edit, write, and fact-check stories.
- Stay on top of sustainability subjects, and identify interesting climate-science scholarship.
- Help manage social media and content partnerships.
- Hire and manage one or more interns.
- Help update our digital properties, including our website and social platforms.
You should have
- At least 3 years of journalism experience, preferably in science and/or environmental journalism.
- Deep concern about the climate emergency and a readiness to do something about it.
- Borderline obsessive detail-orientedness and organizational skills.
- An entrepreneurial and self-starting spirit.
- A nice can-do attitude. We are nice people here.
- Experience optimizing content across platforms—or an eagerness to learn.
