We’re currently seeking a proficient Backend Engineer. The ideal candidate will be up to date on Big Data solutions and will work on everything that powers our platform. While crunching data is key, we’re also on the lookout for someone who can apply their creativity and intelligence to extract the maximum value from it, and to create the tools and processes to support this wherever necessary.

Our tech and dev processes

  • Data processing facility built using AWS services such as Kinesis, Glue, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, Redshift, ECS and ECR, QuickSight, Redis, MongoDB and DynamoDB
  • Backend services based on Laminas Mezzio and Next.js
  • PHP8, Python, and TypeScript on the backend, depending on the workload
  • AWS Terraform AutoScaled infrastructure
  • Unit and integration tested
  • Properly defined Git branching model, with merge requests and CI/CD on GitLab
  • Dev process that that prioritizes developer needs
  • Jira for project management, configured to align with the Git branching model
  • Docker for local development environment

Requirements

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of PHP
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL and relational database engines such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Doctrine ORM or other PHP-based ORMs
  • Experience with Symfony, Laravel, Zend Framework, or an Express.js-based Node.js solution
  • Strong attention to detail and solid analytical skills
  • The ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented culture
  • Bags of passion and drive, and a genuine desire to improve
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude; we believe in collaboration and collective effort
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver to tight deadlines
  • A proactive attitude towards solving problems
  • Superb organizational and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Python and TypeScript
  • Experience with at least one MapReduce data processing framework such as Spark (PySpark) or Hive
  • Experience with Hadoop-based projects 
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Knowledge of AWS services such as S3, RDS, Redshift, Lambda, and Glue
  • Experience with a data warehousing solution such as Snowflake or Firebolt
  • Experience with ElasticSearch
