The Benefits & Compensation Manager will act as a benefits subject matter expert and resource for Zearn team members and provide in-depth analysis that drives the business towards key decisions regarding market competitiveness and compensation practices. This person will support the business in anticipating changes in competitiveness, supporting annual benefits-related events, and executing projects that directly impact the company's total rewards practices. The mandate for the role is both strategic and tactical in nature and will involve working as a functional manager for the People Ops Associate, a project leader, a collaboration partner, and a team member. The successful candidate will manage our Benefits and Compensation tactics with an innovative approach and a continuous improvement mindset.
What You'll Do:
Benefits Management
- Serve as Zearn’s benefits subject matter expert (health, wellness, and LOA) and a resource to team members for benefits and leave-related questions
- Research, troubleshoot, and resolve escalations for benefits inquiries
- Provide consultation, and knowledge to the Team on existing compensation, benefits, rewards, and recognition related topics.
- Partner with Zearn leadership and key stakeholders in the design and execution of an impactful future benefits strategy – inclusive of plan design, offerings, education/communication, etc.
- Provide oversight and management of the annual benefits open enrollment process, including partnering and negotiating with external vendors, preparing communications for team members, and working with the People team to ensure team members are well-informed and engaged
- Provide oversight and management of benefits plan documents, plan design, implementation, administration, and compliance
- Manage the Leave of Absence (LOA) process from start to finish, partnering with team members, managers and the Director of People Operations as needed to maximize efficiency and reduce burden on leave-takers.
- Recommend and implement changes to current plans and policies to stay current with laws, trends and competitors
- Partner with insurance brokers/consultants to negotiate coverage and costs with carriers, and in partnership with finance managing the benefits budget
- Conduct benefits orientation for all new hires
- Manage external compensation consultant, as needed, in conducting team-specific compensation reviews
- Conduct role-specific compensation reviews to support Zearn’s recruitment team
- Review and continuously improve reward & recognition programs that best fit with the organization’s culture, priorities, and changing business needs
- Recommend and implement changes to current plans and policies to stay current with laws, trends and competitors
- Support the development of an equitable Total Rewards philosophy
Compensation Management
- Manage external compensation consultant, as needed, in conducting team-specific compensation reviews
- Conduct role-specific compensation reviews to support Zearn’s recruitment team
- Review and continuously improve reward & recognition programs that best fit with the organization’s culture, priorities, and changing business needs
- Recommend and implement changes to current plans and policies to stay current with laws, trends and competitors
- Support the development of an equitable Total Rewards philosophy
HRIS Management
- Supervise the People Operations Associate in ensuring that data in Zearn’s HRIS is always accurate and relevant
- Enable robust reporting, analytics, and business insights
Who You Are:
- At least 5+ years of experience in HR/People, compensation, benefits, systems, and compliance in a multi-state environment, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Benefits Certification and/or Compensation Professional Certification a plus
- Non-profit experience a plus
- Technical proficiency in People Systems, compensation & benefits, and short- and long-term Incentive plans
- Experience handling benefit programs and external vendors/consultants
- Understanding of the FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ACA, compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other relevant People-related policies and laws is desirable, but a demonstrated ability to research and understand compliance is a must
- Strong business acumen and business process orientation
- Robust communication and influencing skills
- Capable juggler who is willing and able to handle multiple responsibilities, multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and tight timelines
- Demonstrated ability to understand business objectives and translate into people solutions, specifically in total rewards strategy and programs
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally, with discretion, and escalate issues when appropriate

Location:
This role is remote, however you may be required to travel for business and team building meetings.
