Bookkeeper / Accounting Manager

Position Overview:
The Bookkeeper/Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the company’s media-related operations. This individual will maintain accurate financial records, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and accounting standards. Experience in media production accounting, royalty payments, and project-based accounting is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Recordkeeping:
- Maintain and manage financial records, including general ledger accounts, journals, and financial statements.
- Media Industry Accounting:
- Handle media-specific financial tasks such as royalty payments, talent fees, production costs, and project-based accounting.
Budget Management:
- Develop, monitor, and manage company budgets for media projects, including tracking expenses and forecasting future costs.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable:
- Oversee the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections, and managing cash flow.
Payroll:
- Manage payroll processes, including payments for media staff, contractors, and freelancers, ensuring compliance with employment laws and contractual agreements.
Reconciliations:
- Perform regular reconciliations of bank statements, media production costs, and other financial transactions to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure the company complies with tax regulations, including the handling of media-related tax issues such as sales tax on media assets and withholding taxes on talent payments.
Project Accounting:
- Implement project-based accounting practices to accurately track revenues and expenses related to individual media projects.
Reporting:
- Prepare detailed financial reports, including profit and loss statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheets, for media projects and overall company performance.
Auditing:
- Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and media industry regulations.
Financial Analysis:
- Analyze financial performance, identifying trends and advising management on cost-saving opportunities and strategies to improve financial efficiency in media projects.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, with a focus on the media industry.
- Strong understanding of media production accounting, including royalty payments, talent fees, and project-based accounting.
- US GAAP experience.
- Financial Reports creation and analysis experience.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and media-related financial tools.
- Proven experience managing budgets and financial processes for media projects.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple media projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Knowledge of media industry financial regulations and tax compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with accounting for digital media assets, streaming services, or television production.
- Familiarity with international financial regulations in the media industry.
