The Business Development Manager manages the overall RFP process for high-profile and complex public entity and commercial proposals, supporting medical and ancillary products for the National Accounts, Public Sector and Key Accounts sales organizations. Accountabilities include project managing the entire proposal with multiple, downstream business partners and the gathering of supporting documents and analyses. A critical component of this position is the ability to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and complex environment. Health care background, strong interpersonal skills along with business-to-business writing and experience working with sales, underwriting and other functions are essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process all aspects of case intake including manipulation and refinement of census data; preparation of network match reports; management of all Solaris-related functions including case submission, sending to Rating and Underwriting
  • Coordinate and lead strategy calls with appropriate participants necessary to identify customer specific issues, nonstandard escalations and focus proposal team resources effectively
  • Develop pioneering approaches to emerging industry trends and assist with business strategy development
  • Influences senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches
  • Handle processing of all non-standard plan provisions, performance guarantees and benefit design review requests by submitting to EMT
  • Assist in plan design strategy and create benefit summaries or deviations documents outlining proposed benefits while positioning any deviations in a favorable manner
  • Coordinate all Network Analysis requests associated with RFPs and follow up requests including requests for GeoAccess reports, disruption reports, provider counts, and claim repricing exhibits if applicable
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to complete financial questions and exhibits for inclusion into final product
  • Direct cross-functional and/or cross-segment teams to develop targeted solutions and responses
  • Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Consult with Proposal Writer on questionnaire responses, ensuring that the appropriate language and terminology is utilized for the specific customer type
  • Review final questionnaire for accuracy and customizes with market and customer specific information and sales edits
  • Assist sales partners with follow-up work and/or finalist presentation support as needed
  • Serve as point of contact with external brokers, procurement contacts at sales’ request
  • Complete project work as assigned accurately and within specified deadlines
  • Participate in relevant training opportunities that will enhance both individual performance and overall unit performance

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 5+ years of work experience in a corporate health care environment
  • 3+ years of RFP, presale, implementation, sales, or account management experience
  • Solid project management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of sales systems such as Solaris, Salesforce, etc.
  • Familiarity with medical insurance coverage
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
