Position Summary
Buildout is on a transformative journey. With recent acquisitions and rapid changes, we are at a critical juncture where focus, strategy, and operational excellence are paramount to our success.
As our Chief Financial Officer, you will be the strategic financial leader who will guide us through this pivotal phase. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a key role in refining our financial strategy, stabilizing and optimizing operations, and driving the integration of multiple entities into a cohesive, streamlined organization. Your leadership will be vital in enhancing financial performance, establishing strong financial controls, and ensuring that our operations are aligned with our long-term vision. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership:
- Develop and execute a robust financial strategy that supports our business objectives and aligns with our private equity-backed structure.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to the executive team, offering insights on financial performance, risks, and opportunities, particularly in the context of recent acquisitions and ongoing integration efforts.
- Lead the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and modeling processes to support effective decision-making and resource allocation during this period of transformation.
Financial Operations and Optimization:
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, treasury, tax, and audit, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of best-in-class processes and controls.
- Lead the final stages of our Sage ERP implementation, driving the successful migration of multiple entities under one unified platform and ensuring the system is fully optimized for our needs.
- Optimize the company’s capital structure, managing debt, equity, and working capital to support business objectives while navigating the complexities of recent organizational changes.
- Develop and implement scalable processes and systems that enhance operational efficiency and drive excellence across the organization.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, safeguarding the company's assets, and maintaining the highest levels of financial integrity and transparency.
- Lead due diligence and integration efforts related to M&A activities, ensuring smooth transitions and the creation of value across the combined entities.
Investor and Lender Relations:
- Manage relationships with investors, lenders, and financial institutions, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
- Assist the CEO in preparing board decks, managing expectations, and ensuring alignment with investor priorities.
Leadership and Team Development:
- Attract, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to other departments, ensuring that financial insights and priorities are effectively integrated across the business.
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing clear, compelling, and data-driven financial insights and recommendations.
Oversight of People Operations and IT:
- Oversee the People Operations and IT teams, providing strategic support and direction to ensure their strategies align with company goals while allowing autonomy to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Ensure that financial strategies are effectively integrated with workforce planning, compensation strategies, and technology initiatives to support overall organizational success.
Qualifications
- You have the track record, with examples of how you drove financial success through strategic planning, analysis, and decision-making in a PE-backed environment, particularly during periods of significant organizational change.
- You can lay the roadmap, with exceptional strategic planning and problem-solving skills, and the ability to drive operational initiatives that align with long-term business goals.
- You’re a human crystal ball, with the ability to amass a financial picture and forecast with incredible accuracy and specificity.
- You’re a systems junkie, with extensive experience in managing and optimizing a financial tech stack, including tools such as Sage, QuickBooks, Stripe, Braintree, and Avalara, and a proven ability to ensure seamless integration and operational efficiency.
- You aren’t afraid to play hardball, with the ability to ruthlessly prioritize, defend your decisions, and maintain maniacal focus on your teams.
- You swim outside your lane (nicely), with the ability to work collaboratively on an executive team to think across functions and initiatives to pressure test ideas and drive decisions.
- You’ve always got your eye on the prize, with a results-oriented mindset and a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
- You’re simultaneously at 30,000 feet and in the weeds, with a talent for thinking big picture, while also knowing the tactical details of execution in your function.
- You present like a seasoned pro, through storytelling, data-insights, and more that can create confidence in those in the audience (including our board of directors) in your expertise and ideas.
- You likely also have:
- Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior finance or operational leadership role, such as CFO or VP of Finance, within a dynamic and evolving business environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; an MBA or CPA is preferred.
- Strong financial acumen with a deep understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with private equity transactions - M&A, funding strategies, deal rooms, exit transactions, and more.
- Deep understanding of SaaS revenue models and associated success metrics.
