Chief of Staff

Our vision & mission:

Paro is freeing business professionals from the constraints of traditional employment by empowering them to pursue meaningful work on their own terms. In turn, we are democratizing access to the business solutions that companies need.

What we deliver:

Paro provides powerful finance and accounting solutions to businesses via its network of highly vetted experts. Through our proprietary AI-powered platform, we match clients with the best-fit experts to solve problems and drive growth. Our carefully curated expert community provides a range of financial services to clients, from basic bookkeeping and accounting to highly specialized corporate development and strategic advisory.

The Role:

The Chief of Staff is the right-hand person and force-multiplier to the Chief Strategy Officer / CFO. The leverage you provide to the CSO / CFO will be a driving force behind Paro’s aggressive and expansive growth.

You will get a front-row seat to a high-growth company and be a thought partner to the c-suite on major company decisions. You will work on some really interesting problems, get a crash course on all aspects of running a business, and get first-hand exposure on how to be a great senior executive.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Strategic finance: long range planning, corp dev, exit strategy
  • BOD materials and communications: high-quality decks, written and verbal communications for internal and external stakeholders
  • Strategic initiatives: drive high priority cross-functional projects

Note: this is NOT an Executive Assistant role. You will not manage calendars and order sandwiches, but we do expect you to have the humility to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.

Core Responsibilities & How You’ll Add Value:

Creating leverage for the CSO/CFO is the meta responsibility of the Chief of Staff. You will own strategic projects as an extension of the CSO/CFO, enable our Executive Team to make more efficient & effective decisions, and coordinate projects to completion (while not always owning them). This means you will zig one day and zag another. The leverage you provide can come in the form of ad-hoc support or longer-term special projects. Here are a few examples:

  • Spearhead special projects: lead a metrics overhaul, do customer research on an adjacent business opportunity, lead the search for an executive hire
  • Prepare board materials and strategy session decks for meetings with investors, board members, leadership, and company-wide All Hands Meetings
  • Strategic finance: support long range planning exercises, as well as improving and managing components of our annual planning process
  • Be a strategic prioritization compass: we’re in rapid growth and more priorities are competing for the executive team’s time and the company’s resources. You’ll serve as a prioritization compass, ensuring that resources get directed towards the right priorities
  • Support internal and external communications: the Chief of Staff may spend time on communications, managing staff meetings and priorities, building decision-making frameworks, especially as our accelerating growth demands that we spend more time and attention on driving alignment
  • Exposure to future fundraising efforts: including preparing CSO and CEO for investor meetings, facilitating investor follow-up requests, pitch deck creation / iteration

The ideal candidate for the Chief of Staff role will have:

  • 3+ years of I-Banking, PE, Consulting, or a Start-up
  • Strong quantitative abilities and general business analysis skills: must be able to turn a high-quality deck, write a strong memo, build a financial model, and perform data analysis
  • DNA as an executor who is prone to action, follow through, and delivering results, and can rapidly shift gears and multi-task
  • Ability to work autonomously, while gracefully navigating executive-level interpersonal dynamics
  • Ability to be detail oriented (when appropriate), while also always finishing the job
  • A gifted growth mindset, infinite learning abilities, and strong resourcefulness and scrappiness
  • Ability to figure just about anything out
  • Intellectual strength and curiosity to learn a broad range of information, synthesize complex problems, and quickly act + communicate
  • Swiss Army Knife capabilities, which includes being a master generalist where strategy, prioritization, and execution are key
  • Great communications skills: much of what you’ll do is acting as an information exchange, taking inputs from what is going on in the business, helping executives make better decisions, and creating outputs to communicate those decisions
  • Great interpersonal skills: you’ll work with a lot of different people. It’s important you can build trusted relationships with people efficiently

Who you are:

We’re more interested in how you add to our innovative community than formal education or experience. That said, you will shine in this role if you:

Believe that in order to be successful, you need to be surrounded with others who can be their authentic selves at work while driving forward the future of work with Paro. You value taking smart risks and having your colleague’s backs. You welcome challenges and are rigorous in ensuring all voices are heard. You are open to understanding each other’s experiences and communicating effectively together. At Paro we work hard, but we also want every employee to enjoy the journey. You work collaboratively, do the right thing, never settle and put your best work into everything you do.
