What You Will Do:
We're seeking for a Cinematic Director to join the team. The Cinematic Director works with a team of the Screenwriters, Producers, Head of Story, and Artists to create a visual representation of the animation's narrative.
- Participate in the full production process and work with the team to maintain high standards for story, animation, editing, acting, and post-production sound, providing feedback and adjustments.
- Evaluate scripts and storyboards for CG do-ability and ensure that they work within the confines of production model.
- Participate in and guide storyboard, concept design, 2D and 3D art production teams, music and sound effects, and collaborate with multiple outsourced teams to direct and complete the full production.
- Instruct on the filmmaking, continuity, and staging of each segment, make notes on vendor studios' animation, build any layout, key poses, video notes necessary to guide vendor studios in completing the animation.
- Adapt to and maintain the established style of the show.
- Review animation at all stages of production, provide feedback and direction to animators/studios.
- Attend meetings early in the process to understand the project's direction and requirements prior to animation beginning.
- Review designs and breakdown decisions to help direct from the front on new or reused assets.
What We Are Looking For:
- Passionate about games, with a strong creative enthusiasm for narrative-driven contents.
- 5+ years of experience in the film, animation, or gaming industry as a director.
- Understand the way of telling a story. Approach the best cinematic experiences creatively and independently, producing animated storyboards, and supervising their implementation within the tools.
- Excellent storytelling techniques, and understanding of the concept of the visual hierarchy and how to lead the audience's attention to the story. Excellent sense of aesthetics, be able to create outstanding works in all ways.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills in a cross-function environment, able to accurately express opinions and provide suggestions, possess professional bilingual communication skills in both Chinese and English, and can effectively express and communicate in an English-speaking environment.
- Ability to work on a range of projects (action, comedy and drama sequences) and in a variety of styles from comic to realistic and highly stylized.
- Advanced knowledge of cinematic techniques, understanding of mis-en-scene and advanced cinematography and styles.
- Ideally, experience in producing all formats of animations, i.e. 2D, 3D, stylized 3D, 2D/3D hybrid, etc.
- Ability to work in a centralized team of creative professionals.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work independently when required.
- Can manage time efficiently and work independently.
- Ability to champion and/or cinematic ideas.
- Ability to take ownership of a scene or series of scenes and collaborate within a pod to deliver exceptional results.
- Knowledge of software and hardware including Cintiq, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro and Photoshop. Maya is a plus.
