The role

We’re seeking a creative, collaborative and diligent Climate & Nature Researcher & Writer to help us create energising and transformative climate and nature content for the organisations we work with.

Do you believe that truly inspiring, global climate and nature communication can instil the necessary stewardship, compassion and wisdom in people to change the course of history?

Do you believe that education and knowledge are the foundations of our global community, and that furthering them is one the best ways to equitably advance everyone’s futures?

Do you want to play a pivotal role in combating the climate and nature emergency by educating and empowering people all around the world?

Are you in love with nature and the natural world, and do you project that energy through everything that you do?

Do you have experience researching and writing about climate and ecology? And do you like to communicate through curiosity, stories, charisma and magic?

Are you looking to commit to a climate and nature research and writing role with the dedication and gusto commensurate to the scale of this existential emergency?

If your answers are yes, we would love to hear from you!

About us

As you will know, wildfires are raging, floods are displacing tens of millions, tropical diseases are intensifying, crops are failing, and nature is collapsing. The emergency is just beginning.

At AimHi Earth, we’re working to slow and then reverse it - to bring human systems into line with the natural limits of our only home.

We combine technology, digital experience design and behavioural change science to deliver accessible, engaging and scalable online training experiences that rapidly shift mindsets and behaviours, upskilling and empowering people to take ownership and transform complex systems.

Our work has already changed the direction of companies, the kits of football players, the funding strategy of charities, the speeches of Olympic medallists, and the output of broadcasters. We are setting a global standard for rapid behaviour and mindset change.

We’re currently reaching thousands of people. We want you to help us to take that to millions.

We know that we need everyone, from every culture, industry and walk of life, to play their part in overcoming this unfolding catastrophe. To effectively play our own part, we want to be working with people as committed and dedicated to serving future generations (human and more-than-human) as we are.

What you’ll be doing

To start off with, your role will focus on:

  • Conducting desk-based research on the organisations we work with; in particular on their climate, sustainability and nature work.
  • Working with our existing training materials and weaving in client-specific references, links and language.
  • Crafting new organisation-specific content and weaving it into our extant training material.
  • Fine-tuning and proof-reading scripts ready for delivery by our team of presenters.
  • Updating and tweaking our existing scripts.

If all goes well, this role’s responsibilities will broaden, and we are open to it evolving into a fixed Climate & Nature Communications position.

Requirements

What you’ll need

There are a number of qualities that will be essential for this role, including:

  • An ability to craft inspiring content which leaves people remembering how they felt - not just what they learnt.
  • Eagerness to share your own ideas and to harness the power of radical imagination.
  • Ease in collaborating and co-creating - being open to receiving and incorporating constructive feedback.
  • Diligence and a keen eye for detail.
  • Previous experience working as a writer/researcher/editor, ideally in the climate, sustainability or nature space.

Furthermore, qualities that are essential for all of our roles at AimHi Earth include:

  • Initiative and self-starter energy, to take ownership over the role and make it your own.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team – to rapidly understand the assignment, and to collaborate well with others to get it done, learn from it and improve it.
  • Ability to work well autonomously, particularly as a remote worker – discipline, self-motivation, managing your time effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills – to approach challenges critically, ask good questions and find innovative solutions by yourself and with others.

Nice to haves

  • 2+ years working in the climate, sustainability and nature space.
  • Familiarity with the world of business sustainability (eg. ESG, SBTi, TCFD and other confusing acronyms!).
  • Experience with and/or interest in digital education, storytelling, psychology and systems-thinking.

Benefits

How we work

We take great pride in our people and our culture. We trust and admire one another, and we all share the same mission of turning around the climate and nature emergency through enabling the world to better understand it.

We have 15+ people working remotely around the world, with whom we have regular check-ins to devise and coordinate ambitious plans, and to find solutions to our problems.

We aim to help all of our team members to do their best work, be themselves, and ultimately feel energised every Monday, so whilst this role will begin as a contractor role, and you therefore won’t have access to perks like a wellbeing budget and professional development, we are still able to offer you:

  • Flexible hours.
  • Remote working with a vibrant, international team, and a friendly, respectful, values-based culture.
  • The opportunity to connect with a larger community, via our memberships, fellowships and associations with local and global organisations.
  • The chance to become part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing start-up that’s changing the world for the better.

On remote work

Remote work is not for everyone. With it comes freedom, but also isolation. Some enjoy remote work where others do not. Some like global video calls where others find them hollow.

We are a group of people who thrive from freedom and diversity, connect well over calls, and love to be working in synchronicity with people around the world.

To balance our digital work lives, all of our team has an active community around where we live.

You will not get those water-cooler moments, nor those Friday afternoons at the pub with us. You will get a hugely dedicated, diligent team of smart, dynamic people, ambitious about changing the world for the better, and always ready to talk with one another. Like us, you will be inspired by your colleagues (as we hope to be by you), and you will likely make life-long friends. But if you are worried that you may want more day-to-day, in-person interactions with the people you work with, then a role with us might not be for you.

How to apply

Please apply to this role via Workable – we will be accepting applications on a rolling basis, but intend to close applications by 2nd January 02024 at the latest. You will be asked for:

  • Your CV.
  • A very brief cover letter sharing what excites you about working with us.
  • Links to a piece or two of your writing that you’re proud of.
  • When you’d be available to start.
  • How you found out about this role/AimHi Earth.
  • The number of days of work per week that would be ideal for you, week to week, and how flexible you are on this.

Diversity

We embrace diversity at AimHi Earth and are committed to welcoming people into our team and contractor pool regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or disability.

We are especially keen to encourage applications and interest from individuals underrepresented in our organisation and sector. We are very aware that the climate and nature crisis intersects with social injustice. Furthermore, to build an organisation that is effective in turning around the climate and nature emergency, we know that we need a team with all kinds of different perspectives, experiences and backgrounds.

Applicants outside of the UK

We are able to consider people outside of the UK for our contractor roles. However, do consider that, if you were to transition to a salaried role with us in the future, the amount we could pay you would depend, in part, on the cost of employing someone abroad. If you’d like to dig into this, you can obtain estimates around costs of employing people in different countries via Oyster.

Good luck!

We understand that applying for a new job takes a lot of work and we really value your time. We are really looking forward to reading your application!
