Varian is seeking a Global Standards and Content Specialist to educate and be a resource to new users on proprietary healthcare oncology software and hardware system products. Develop curriculum and teach courses. Assist Varian and its customers in fully utilizing the complex functionality of the technology to meet their business needs. Conduct product training for customers and employees, in particular training for complex situations involving multiple products. Lead classroom lectures and laboratory sessions to ensure customers are trained to operate Varian equipment according to safety guidelines with the highest level of satisfaction. Prepare lesson plans based on engineering documentation, field service requirements, and software documentation to address customers’ specific implementation questions. Collaborate with customers as well as the sales, product marketing, and technical support departments to ensure course material reflects current product features, and address customer inquiries including testing scenarios using Varian products. Work directly with Radiation Therapists, Dosimetrists, Physicist and Engineers in the training environment.
To strategize, coordinate and facilitate the Training and Technical Support (TTS) training strategy for Varian’s Practice Management products. Serve as the primary interface between TTS and Product Marketing and Product Management for the gathering and dissemination of data to be delivered to internal and external customers across the globe.
- Work with Product Managers, Product Engineers, Product Marketing, Curriculum Developers, Information Technologists, Internal Trainers, and Instructional Designers, to develop the training strategies and all training deliverables to internal and external customers across the globe.
- Work with Strategic Training team and develop videos for training.
- Manage the Practice Management applications related to training and education.
- Develop an implementation strategy for any upgrades or newly developed.
- Practice Management product offering/s to parallel existing product models.
- Work closely with other product specialists to coordinate training and technical support of new and enhanced products.
- Interface with Marketing as a representative of TTS to ensure a strong flow of relevant Product Information to and from TTS and Marketing and monitor that all PLC criteria are met and provide input for Management Executive Review (MER).
- Coordinate or lead customer and/or employee training classes.
- May conduct large group presentations at seminars, training programs, and trade shows
- May provide demo support to local, regional, national and global customer trade events.
- Formulate complementary support training information in the form of quick tips, workbooks, and implementation guides.
- Travel 25%-50%. International travel and different time zones may be required
Summary:
- Management of incoming customer support requests regarding Varian’s Oncology products.
- The qualified candidate will be an analytic problem solver who is capable of recommending solutions/corrective actions to customer application questions.
- Ability to clinically assess situations/issues and determine appropriate escalation path.
- Works as an integral member of the complaint process, and communicates relevant information to the customer as appropriate.
- May also provide customer training, demo support at Trade Shows and for the Varian Sales organization, as well as formulate and review written customer support training materials.
- Applicable to the Oncology Systems business only: Position must have full access to VMS client sites to perform the essential functions of this position. Many VMS clients require VMS employees and representatives to meet certain “Vendor Credentialing” requirements before they will be allowed to have access to their sites. Unless prohibited by law, position must meet all Vendor Credentialing requirements necessary to have full client access, and must continue to meet those requirements during the course of VMS employment in this position.
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Clinical Radiation experience essential. Commissioning Linear accelerators Commissioning Radiotherapy treatment planning systems Calibration and quality assurance of imaging systems and for Linear accelerators.
- Experience in IGRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, HDR, brachytherapy Treatment planning execution and oversight
- Must have strong troubleshooting, analytic, and problem-solving skills.
- Works effectively in teams.
- Self-directed.
- Demonstrates ability and work under pressure situations.
- Must be able to multitask, be organized.
- Other Desired Skills and Knowledge: Strong customer service skills
- Required Certifications and Training: Must have a Master’s degree in Medical Physics or international equivalent Obtains and completes LMS training plan specific to assigned responsibility.
- Applicable to the Oncology Systems business only: Meets all Vendor Credentialing requirements necessary to gain VMS client site access, unless prohibited by law. These requirements vary by client and may include, but are not limited to:
- Proof of valid identification (photo, driver’s license, SSN)
- Criminal background checks
- Drug screens
- Immunizations (Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza, Tetanus)
- Annual TB testing
- Healthcare trainings Experience Level with Business Tools: Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with HCM (e.g., Workday) or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.
- Knowledge Has mastered 20-40% within the defined professional scope.
- Developing professional skills and experience.

- Typical Education and Experience: Minimum of Master’s Degree in Medical Physics or related field, 3-5 years of work experience or in a clinical application related occupation. Minimum 2 years in the job role. ABR certified a plus.
