Commercial & Data Protection Counsel
Description
NMI is looking for Commercial and Data Protection Legal Counsel with particular experience in the technology sector to join our highly regarded team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading FinTech company and be the face of the UK legal team, advising on a range of commercial agreements and data protection issues within a dynamic and supportive environment.
In this role, you will be working across a diverse scope of commercial and data protection matters. The role primarily involves assisting our US-based General Counsel and our UK-based sales team to negotiate commercial agreements, including payment service provider agreements with merchants and distributors. In addition, you will have an opportunity to support the team on product development and various strategic initiatives. You will assist our General Counsel and the security and compliance teams by providing privacy and data protection compliance advice, from an internal compliance perspective (including the development and management of the company's data protection policies) and with regards to customer due diligence. You will lead our UK paralegal and support the maintenance and development of the business's template agreements, and contract review guidebooks.
Requirements
What we hope you will bring to the team:
- 2-5 years of relevant experience, including work related to commercial contracts and data protection matters, ideally in a private law firm recognised for its focus on the tech sector or in-house at a fast growing technology company
- Adept in negotiating contracts related to the payments space and or SaaS
- Ability to provide rapid, practical and concise business-oriented legal/commercial contract advice
- A deep understanding of data protection regulation, case law guidance and ability to stay up to date with the latest developments
- Passion for working on cross-functional legal matters, including comprehensive data protection compliance projects
- Experience owning the development and management of company data protection policies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Interest and awareness of the payment and SaaS sectors
- Experience with UK and US legal contracts
- An understanding of international data protection regimes
- CIPP/E or CIPP/M certification
