Communications Specialist
Job Summary:
Aptive is seeking a versatile, full-time Communications Specialist to support a wide range of communications efforts for the Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The Communications Specialist will work closely with senior executives and leadership to establish organizational messages and keep stakeholders informed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, edit and write content for various internal and external channels to keep stakeholders informed of developments, newsworthy stories and more.
- Draft written correspondence, emails and messaging for executive leadership.
- Draft verbal messages and scripts for senior executives and leadership for employee presentations.
- Use journalistic ability, research and interview skills to source content for messaging.
- Develop and implement communications plans and strategies to support messaging, events, activities and cross-team projects.
- Write content for social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) about new FMCSA initiatives, stakeholders and other newsworthy events.
- Assist with the development of a communications material repository for senior executives.
- Research, write and edit press releases and speeches.
- Ensure all content aligns with client style guides and federal plain language standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of related communications experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Experience supporting complex projects within the federal government, preferably DOT
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
