Job Description
OVERVIEW
The General Counsel is responsible for supporting the implementation of Spring Venture Group’s Compliance program and requires an advanced working knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations applicable to health insurance agencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The essential duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Work is generally independent and on issues/matters of high complexity while providing oversight with areas of responsibility.
- Assist the Compliance Department in the implementation of the Company’s Compliance program.
- Assist the General Counsel in compliance activities, including those related to HIPAA Privacy, in accordance with SVG policies and procedures as well as applicable state, federal, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Research and advise on federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations that impact all SVG agencies including but not limited to HIPAA and TCPA. Provide other legal research as assigned by the General Counsel.
- Conduct contract reviews and drafting of legal documents as assigned by the General Counsel. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with established legal principles and requirements.
- Escalate compliance and privacy concerns to the General Counsel.
- Provide oversight in assessing product, compliance, privacy or operational risks and contribute to risk management strategies.
- Assist the General Counsel andSVG Training Specialists in providing compliance and regulatory training (e.g., TCPA and Privacy) as needed.
- Perform HIPAA Privacy desk audits and work with the General Counsel/Privacy Officer in resolving any HIPAA issues that occur. Support other business audit requirements as requested.
- Contribute to the annual Compliance Work Plan.
- Maintain an expert-level knowledge of compliance trends and applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations to ensure compliance practices are maintained and upheld.
- Assist the General Counsel and Outside Counsel with litigation as needed,
- Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school with admittance to at least one state bar in good standing.
- Minimum of 5 years of similar or related experience.
- Law License in at least one state. Missouri preferred.
- Healthcare Compliance, Privacy Certifications are a plus.
SKILLS/SPECIALTIES
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of HIPAA and TCPA.
- Prior experience in health insurance compliance
- Prior experience in conducting contract reviews.
- Prior experience in assisting in litigation.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Acute listening skills.
- Excellent legal research skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to record detailed information thoroughly and accurately.
- Ability to work independently and with coworkers and share knowledge as part of a team.
