Concept Artist
Methodical Games is a newly formed studio built around a fundamental set of ideals; a lean talented team, direct cross-discipline collaboration, quick iteration, and developer-driven processes. Our goal is to foster a haven for developers to push the bounds of their craft and collaborate directly with other creative minds. As our name suggests, we pride ourselves on a detail oriented approach to game development with a focus on meticulously crafted gameplay. You might even call it an obsession. We’re seeking passionate individuals from all walks of life to join us in building something great.
We are looking for a versatile and creative Concept Artist to help define the artistic style for a new IP built in Unreal Engine 5. Our ideal candidate will inspire the team by exploring setting, tone, and mood through original concept art that is visually cohesive and in line with the game direction.
Responsibilities
- Use traditional and technological approaches to create designs and storyboards in 2D and 3D through drawing and painting.
- Interpret initial ideas and quickly sketch drafts for review.
- Curate reference and develop mood boards.
- Collaborate with the Art Director and team to develop style guides for environments, characters, weapons, armor, props, and other in-game assets.
- Proactively engage with all departments to align with high-level priorities and maintain strong lines of communication.
- Support with textures and matte paintings for in-game use on characters, environments, and user interfaces.
- Play and give feedback on the game. Your voice matters.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional experience.
- A portfolio of work demonstrating your strong artistic imagination and storytelling ability.
- Impeccable understanding of artistic fundamentals such as perspective, anatomy, composition, color theory, lighting, form, shape, and texture.
- Research skills and an exceptional imagination to create images of characters and places that don't yet exist.
- A developed eye for visual mood as it relates to storytelling.
- Strong knowledge of influential styles and appeal.
- Confident using creative tools (Photoshop, Maya, etc).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with the team.
- Excellent time management skills, to sketch and adapt images quickly within tight deadlines.
- Passion for making and playing games.
Nice to Have
- Game development experience.
- 3D art skills.
- Graphic design experience.
- Experience with Adobe Substance suite.
