Content Editor

Newsweek is seeking a talented and motivated content editor to join our growing team. The right candidate has experience editing and shaping a sizeable number of daily articles at a news publication or in a similar role. As part of this team, you will work closely with a group of talented content creators and an assigning editor to shape, package and enhance content to meet Newsweek standards and engage our diverse audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editing Content: Primary responsibility involves editing content that has been produced by a creator, ensuring stories flow naturally, maintain consistency in tone, and align with our editorial voice.
- Quality Assurance: Rigorously proofread articles for grammatical accuracy, factual correctness, and stylistic consistency, ensuring all content is publication-ready.
- Contextual Enhancement: Add depth and context to stories as needed, enriching content with insights, additional information, and relevant perspectives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the editorial team and content creators to align content with editorial guidelines and thematic focuses.
- Feedback Loop: Provide constructive feedback to improve the content creation process, identifying recurring issues and suggesting enhancements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field.
- Solid experience in copy editing, preferably in a newsroom or digital publication environment.
- Exceptional command of the English language, with strong editing and proofreading skills. Familiarity with AP Style or similar editorial guidelines.
- Comfortable with digital publishing tools and adaptable to new technologies.
- Ability to discern subtleties in language and narrative flow.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.
