Job Description

Compose.ly is seeking an experienced marketing writer to join our client’s marketing team, the unit responsible for promoting the brand, its services, news, thought leadership and subject matter expertise to a broad global audience. This role will focus primarily on writing content for our client’s blog, case study library, and marketing campaigns.

An ideal candidate should bring 5+ years of experience writing content on complex topics with an in-house marketing team; familiarity with digital marketing CX, and business topics; comfort collaborating with SMEs to distill complex ideas into engaging content; excellent writing skills; and keen attention to detail and deadlines.

This is a contract position for 30 hours per week for 6 months.

Objectives of this Role

  • Increase volume and speed of content output across the brand’s blogs, marketing campaign-specific content and client case studies
  • Support the existing marketing team’s content writing objectives
  • Improve overall quality and effectiveness of blog and campaign content (e.g. more dynamic and engaging storytelling, stronger “hooks” for the reader, tighter focus and clearer takeaways, more “showing” and less “telling”)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the team leader to align on content needs and priorities, stakeholders, processes and timelines.
  • Complete writing assignments that span a wide range of topics relevant to the client’s services.
  • Work directly with subject matter experts to identify topics, gather information and draft content.
  • Translate complex and detailed subject matter into concise, digestible, and compelling narratives with clear takeaways and calls to action.
  • Hypothetical example: the marketing team is planning a lead-generation campaign focused on promoting the business’s data science services, which will require new pieces of blog content and case studies. In collaboration with the content team lead, the contractor would be tasked with interviewing one or more of the company’s data science subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify potential content topics and then draft/edit content with the SME’s input.
  • Adapt existing content (e.g. data reports, pitch decks) to fit different formats (e.g. blog, case study library).
  • Conduct thorough research to create high-quality, informative content.
  • Write well-researched, keyword-driven content to optimize organic traffic and improve search engine rankings.
  • Proofread and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in messaging.
  • Meet deadlines consistently and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Skills and qualifications

  • At least 5 years of solid writing experience covering diverse, complex and sophisticated subject matter.
  • Familiarity with subject matter including digital marketing and advertising, technology (e.g. AI, online business platforms, digital transformation), customer experience, market research, basic business principles.
  • Experience working directly with subject matter experts to create content (e.g. interview a subject matter expert to capture perspectives, create a draft based on the conversation/supporting materials, work with subject matter expert and other stakeholders on edits and approvals).
  • High comfort level with a fast-paced environment and aggressive timelines.
  • Four-year college degree.
  • Exceptional writing abilities, including impeccable grammar and attention to detail, and the skill to adapt tone and style to match our brand and audience.
