We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and collaborative Controller responsible for oversight of all accounting and controllership activities. The Controller will design and execute best-in-class strategies, accounting processes and controls, incorporating critical thinking to drive operational performance and leading the Company's focus on fiduciary responsibilities. The Controller will be responsible for enhancing the accuracy and timeliness of the company's reported financial results, while ensuring those results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, and maintaining a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
Role Expectations:
- Lead and manage of all aspects of accounting and controllership activities for the company
- Prepare and review all accounting transactions (A/R, A/P, Journal Entries, Fixed Assets, Accrual, prepaid, Intercompany transactions, etc.)
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reporting in compliance with US GAAP standards
- Build on strong foundations, seeking process improvements that will increase the accuracy and timeliness of financial close
- Maintain and document internal accounting controls and procedures
- Lead external audit process and issuance of GAAP financial statements
- Act as primary interface between the company and our banking partners
- As Glossier continues to scale and evolve, guide financial decision making by ensuring the development and adoption of strong accounting policies and procedures that comply with best practices
- Provide and seek out guidance on relevant domestic and international regulations across the US, Canada and the UK and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
- Oversee the Company’s global tax structure, intercompany agreements, and compliance
- Ensure Glossier complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by understanding existing and new legislation, future legislation, adhering to current requirements and advising the leadership team as needed
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, leading with empathy while holding each team member accountable for clearly communicated expectations and deliverables
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in a senior accounting position in a growing company from a relevant industry (consumer products, retail, beauty); prior experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm is preferred. 5+ years of team management and leadership experience
- Active CPA (or similar professional accreditation) is a must
- NetSuite experience preferred
- Proficiency with using Excel to manipulate and analyze financial statements and related data
- Desire and ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members and help them realize their full potential
- Deep experience with best practices related to areas of revenue recognition, fixed assets, inventory accounting, cost accounting, payroll, tax, technical accounting, treasury and compliance with US GAAP standards
- Solid foundation with Sarbanes-Oxley
- High degree of comfort with multi-currency accounting and global company consolidations
- Strong communication skills and a history of working cross-functionally to build positive relationships with people and teams across a diverse organization
- Self-starter with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and dive deep as needed. High attention to detail and focus on accuracy and accountability in a fast-paced environment
- Proven success in driving process implementations and improvements
