About the Role:
You will be the Leader of the Accounting team. You will materially impact and help shape Papaya’s success by implementing and managing processes and resources, and leading annual audits.

What you will be doing:
- Lead the Accounting function, including internal and external Accounting resources, setting it up for future growth.
- Lead end-to-end annual financial statement audits: audit firm relationship, preparation, field work execution, audit reports and follow-ups.
- Research and document appropriate US GAAP treatment for the different areas of the business. Write Accounting memos and policies.
- Supervise Accounting Operations:
- Monthly financials and management reporting packages.
- Review of month-end journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Continuously optimize accounting processes.
- Supervise the Tax function:
- Manage Federal and State tax returns.
- Other tax filings (franchise, payroll).
- Actively participate in other functional areas – for example: cash management, work with AP/AR/Payroll Analysts as needed.
- Actively support the growth of the business:
- Identify and drive process improvements. Design new processes as needed.
- Work with internal teams to manage and improve data systems that impact the accuracy of the financials.
- Complete special projects as needed.
We’d like to hear from candidates with:
- Background and Functional Expertise:
- 8+ years of professional accounting experience.
- CPA required, or a minimum of 5 years of CPA Audit firm experience.
- Large Audit Firm experience strongly preferred.
- Private accounting experience at a startup/high-growth company preferred.
- Desire to work in a fast growing, sometimes unstructured environment where you can add a lot not only to your functional role but to all those around you.
- An extremely high degree of ownership.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal.
- Ability to problem solve and provide solutions on complex issues.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.

In order to provide greater transparency, we have included base pay ranges for all of our US-based job postings. Our pay ranges are based on the role's level and responsibilities, and benchmarked against similar stage growth companies in the fintech industry. We utilize multiple factors including skills and work experience to determine the final offer amount given to each candidate. The base pay range for this position is: $170,000-$200,000.
