Ardent is seeking a Database Administrator to join our team.
This is a Remote position.
Position Description:
Ardent is seeking a Database Administrator. This role is part of a tightly-integrated client-contractor team performing cloud-hosting O&M and agile software development in support of a federal agency responsible for improving post-disaster survivor outcomes. The GIS Database Administrator/Developer will provide daily monitoring and optimization of geospatial databases, working closely with the Sys Admin, ArcGIS Server Admin, Security Admin, and team of GIS & App Developers to identify and troubleshoot issues, make recommendations for improvements to the database, assist with database design, development, and solution engineering for new enhancements. This role requires someone who desires to be highly-collaborative, attentive to detail, a creative problem-solver, and communicates effectively in team settings.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Full-time support.
- SQL Server administration.
- Work closely with the FEMA System Owner, Product Owner, PM, and Sys Admin to determine specific application requirements and specifications.
- Perform database administration, optimization, development and design (minimal)
- Work independently to maintain database security, stored procedures, ensure database and application performance and resolve problems.
- Coordinate with GIS Developers to ensure implementation and monitoring of GIS databases.
- Manage the design and development of GIS databases and related master files and ensure system capacity for current and future requirements.
- Assist with/make recommendations for optimized design and development of GIS applications and multi-layered maps.
- Design and implement data conversion procedures and perform software and database quality control.
- Will tune the enterprise geo database to work with ESRI Web mapping applications.
- The DBA will work with end users (both GIS personnel and website users) to implement data standards and quality assurance standards by creating and updating the data dictionary and automated data validation processes.
- Will document methodologies used in the management of databases and reporting.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or related field.
- Shall have 6-9 years of experience in database administration and development with GIS experience (GIS database development or administration)
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing geospatial systems.
- Extensive experience with spatial databases and data modeling.
- Strong knowledge of GIS, specifically ESRI technologies and architectures.
- Experience in GIS concepts and relational database administration is essential and must include experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Must have knowledge of the latest trends in cloud database administration, especially as they related to Amazon Web Services
- Extensive and specific experience with ESRI software and tools (preferably ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS) is mandatory
- Must have the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical computer users, both orally and in writing
- Have experience in administering cloud-based database environments
- Proficiency in T-SQL and proficiency in the coding of software and processing digital databases, and using GIS programming languages, Python, HTML, and other technologies.
Preferred and a Plus:
- ESRI Certification
- AWS Cloud Certification (Cloud Certified Practitioner - Foundational)
