As a Database Administrator (DBA) / Aurora Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining database systems, particularly those utilizing Amazon Aurora. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of the database infrastructure. This position requires a deep understanding of database management, optimization, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.

What You Will Do:

  1. Database Administration
  2. Create and manage database instances, clusters, and replicas.
  3. Perform routine database maintenance tasks, such as backups, restores, and updates.
  4. Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks and issues.
  5. Optimize database queries and indexing for improved performance.
  6. Security and Compliance
  7. Implement and enforce security policies and access controls to safeguard sensitive data.
  8. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  9. Backup and Recovery:
  10. Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.
  11. Test and document disaster recovery procedures to ensure data availability in case of failures.
  12. High Availability and Scaling
  13. Configure and manage database replication, failover, and clustering for high availability.
  14. Scale database resources to accommodate growing workloads.
  15. Performance Tuning
  16. Identify and resolve performance issues by analyzing query execution plans and database statistics.
  17. Optimize database schema and configurations for improved efficiency.
  18. Documentation and Training:
  19. Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  20. Provide training and guidance to other team members on database-related tasks and technologies.
  21. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
  22. Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and outages in a timely manner.
  23. Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot application-related database problems.
  24. Stay Current with Technology:
  25. Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in database technologies, especially Amazon Aurora.

You’ll Succeed With:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on Amazon MySQL Aurora with 5+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization.
  • Strong understanding of database security, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Haves:

  • Certifications in database technologies and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty) is a plus.
