The Contract Accounting team focuses on deferred revenue areas. During a typical monthly close, you will have the opportunities to prepare journal entries, make adjustments to revenue contracts in our ERP system and prepare balance sheet reconciliations with quarterly variance analyses. After each close, you will support monthly forecast and perform additional ad hoc research and process-improvement tasks.

An ideal candidate should be self-motivated as well as a good team player. They should have a high level of attention to detail and be able to complete tasks assigned timely and with good results, even in a fast-paced work environment (i.e., during a monthly close).

This position will be hired in Monett, MO, Springfield, MO, Allen, TX, and Lenexa, KS

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Prepare month-end close journal entries, such as accruals and adjustments.
  • Maintain supporting schedules for revenue and deferred revenue accounts as assigned.
  • Perform actual vs forecast variance analyses for revenue accounts, able to research on variances identified independently and provide clear explanations.
  • Perform BS reconciliations for deferred revenue accounts, perform current quarter-end vs prior quarter-end/year-end variance analyses and provide explanations.
  • Perform monthly forecast tasks for the revenue type assigned.
  • Able to build good work relationships with other Contract Accounting team members and people outside the Contract Accounting team, be “customer-centric” when providing support to other people/teams.
  • Able to assist with requests from outside the Contract Accounting team through doing research, determining the best approach to resolution, and communicating results.
  • Able to provide work direction, technical assistance, and answer questions for less experienced accounting staff, when needed.
  • Train on responsibilities transitioning to or from another team member or the accounting department.
  • Prepare detailed process documentation in support of responsibilities and maintain existing documentation.
  • Able to identify inefficiencies in the current workflows and processes, and brainstorm solutions with the Contract Accounting team and the manager to improve efficiency.
  • May perform other job duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Must have experience with advanced Excel formulas (xlookup, sumif/s, pivot tables).
  • Must be able to work past 5pm CST during monthly closes.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to attend JHA meetings, trainings and conferences.

What would be nice for you to have:

  • Master’s degree or CPA.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and other accounting principles.
  • General Ledger, Journal entries, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition under ASC 606.
  • Past experience of working in accounting at a software company.
