About The Role
The Design Operations Director oversees the production of printed materials, from design to pre-press. They ensure the final product meets quality standards, brand standards, and client expectations. The DOD develops design production schedules and leads the Design department. They also work as a bridge with Creative & Editorial, IT / Design Tech, Ad Design, Publication Design TLs, Client Support teams, and Print Production. This isn’t a hands-on creative role.
This is a fully remote position. Interviews will be conducted via video calls.
The Role in Action
- Manage team workflow and workloads: Plan, execute, and manage production schedules, PTO, and sabbatical schedules. Ensure all design production processes are running smoothly and efficiently.
- Meet deadlines: Ensure the team meets production schedules and forecasts.
- Oversees quality control: Ensure teams are producing designs that delight our clients.
- Work closely with: Creative & Editorial, Marketing, and clients to ensure continuous improvement, troubleshooting, and quality control.
- Facilitate training: Provide designers with ongoing training and support to keep skills sharp and ensure they meet required deadlines.
- Report metrics: Regularly update senior management on the Design team’s performance and workloads.
