DevOps Engineer
Datavant is a rapidly growing healthcare technology company with a mission to connect the world’s health data. By eliminating data silos in the healthcare industry, we aim to unlock opportunities to accelerate clinical data exchange, medical research, and help organizations design better ways to facilitate access, affordability, and quality of care leading to better patient outcomes.
By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a highly collaborative, fully remote team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare. We look for people who are smart, nice and get things done. We invest in our people and believe in hiring for high-potential and humble individuals who can rapidly grow their responsibilities as the company scales. Datavant is a distributed, remote-first team (no office locations) and we empower Datavanters to shape their working environment in a way that suits their needs -- learn more here!
Datavant is looking for software engineers who love big data, thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, and who share our drive to transform the healthcare industry. In exchange for your time and talent, we'll give you ownership and an unprecedented amount of responsibility from day one.
At Datavant, we believe in learning by doing, so we give you access to our code base on your first day. By the end of your first week, you will have built, fixed (and probably broken!) things in our production code. That’s not only okay; it’s expected. One of our guiding values is "give more responsibility, have fewer rules”.
As a DevOps Engineer at Datavant, you will be involved in designing and building infrastructure solutions and automations to increase scalability, security and engineering productivity. You will help define the best practices and methodologies for infrastructure setup, upgrade, automation and maintenance, while collaborating closely with peers. You will be a hands-on contributor to the DevOps team in addressing our company’s cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security and automation.
You Will:
- Automate the provisioning of infrastructure in multiple rapidly evolving environments in accordance with proven DevOps best practices and philosophy.
- Build tools, processes, scripts, and workflows that accelerate the velocity at which engineers can deploy high quality, secure products
- Mentor other members of the DevOps team as well as the other engineering teams on building, testing, deploying, verifying, upgrading, and securing our software in a fast paced environment.
- Represent the DevOps team to all levels in the organization.
- Be a force multiplier for the engineering teams, enabling them to focus on delivering business value as quickly and efficiently as possible.
You Will Bring To The Table:
- A thirst for knowledge, a desire to embrace ambiguity and solve complex problems in an autonomous fashion.
- Outstanding communication skills, the ability to describe complex problems to all skill levels of all disciplines.
- The desire to build an exceptional business that transforms the healthcare industry and provides massive value to our customers.
- The ambition to thrive in the fast-paced environment of an entrepreneurial, rapidly growing company, and desire to embrace the responsibilities and ambiguity that comes with it.
- Experience writing scalable, secure, and well documented code, ideally with Python.
- Knowledge of cloud services (with a focus on AWS), containerization, and Kubernetes (ideally EKS).
- 5+ years of relevant DevOps, Infrastructure, SRE, or Platform engineering experience.
Desired but not required:
- Deep experience in one or more of the following areas: Infosec, GovCloud, compliance (specifically SOC2+HITRUST and FedRAMP), Terraform, release engineering, test automation, cloud based system design, operating systems, debugging, scalability.
We are committed to building a diverse team of Datavanters where every Datavanter is empowered to bring their authentic self to their work. We are all responsible for stewarding a high-performance culture in which all Datavanters belong and thrive. We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected status.
Our compensation philosophy is to be externally competitive, internally fair, and not win or lose on compensation. Salary ranges are developed with the support of benchmarks (competitive San Francisco rates for US-based roles) and industry best practices.
We’re building a high-growth, high-autonomy culture. We rely less on job titles and more on cultivating an environment where anyone can contribute, the best ideas win, and personal growth is driven by expanding impact and less by title. This means we default to simple job titles (e.g., Software Engineer) rather than complex ones (e.g., Senior Software Engineer). The range posted is for a given job title, which can include multiple levels. Individual rates for the same job title may differ based on their level, responsibilities, skills, and experience for a specific job. The estimated salary range for this role is $145,000 - $280,000.
At the end of this application, you will find a set of voluntary demographic questions. If you choose to respond, your responses will be used to help us identify areas of improvement in our recruitment process. We can only see aggregate responses and are unable to view individual responses. In fact, we aren’t even able to see if you’ve responded or not! Responding is your choice and it will not be used in any way in our hiring process.
