Your Role & Mission:

Apollo Engineering strongly believes in allowing team members to take ownership of what they do, and our approach to problem-solving relies heavily upon creativity, communication, and collaboration. As the DevOps Manager at Apollo.io, you will build, sustain, and foster a world-class and teamwork-oriented DevOps team. You will be responsible for growing infrastructure that caters to millions of customers, and scale databases at tens of terrabytes.

Daily Adventures & Responsibilities:

At Apollo.io, you will:

  • Take ownership of reliability, operational excellence and developer experience
  • Participate in and drive key technical decision-making discussions such as sprint planning and architectural design
  • Help build and scale a world-class infrastructure team by sourcing and hiring candidates
  • Hold systematic weekly 1:1 touch points with engineers to deliver and receive quality feedback
  • Work with engineers to develop and execute on personalized goals
  • Conduct objective and helpful quarterly performance reviews for engineers
  • Own the QA process and product quality as the org leader for the QA team

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of hands-on infrastructure engineering industry experience
  • 3+ years' experience of technical leadership over an infrastructure team; should have fundamentals in infrastructure architecture at scale, effective engineering processes, and cross-team function
  • Problem-solving: You are self-motivated and passionate about pursuing excellence, and enjoy adapting to and tackling problems that block you from reaching your goals
  • Execution: You are able to effectively plan, organize, and execute on initiatives in a timely and efficient manner
  • Expectations: You have high expectations for the team's happiness, unity, growth, and level of execution and delivery
  • Empathy: As a mentor and as a teammate, you are an intent listener that is compassionate and puts people first, and you are tactful with both accepting and delivering criticism to others
  • Driving alignment: You have the ability to set goals, align, and drive improvements within the team
  • You live and breathe infrastructure-as-code
  • Ability to take ownership over everything you deliver
  • Confident in owning your role, and bringing creative ideas to your team
  • You strive for quality, and are obsessed with automation and squashing any bugs that sneak through

Skills:

  • Required:
  • BS or MS degree from a university in a technical discipline (e.g. CS, Math, Engineering)
  • Strong expertise with Kubernetes on AWS or GCP
  • Familiarity with Terraform
  • Strong expertise with Linux (Ubuntu) and experience with managing at least one database
  • Experience with automated build deployment software such as Github Actions or Jenkins
  • Experience with distributed, fault-tolerant, and highly-available systems
  • Exposure to a modern backend programming language, preferably Ruby, but Python, Bash are also acceptable
  • Nice-to Haves:
  • Experience with MongoDB
  • Experience with ElasticSearch
  • Experience with Ansible
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails
  • Experience with Web scraping
