JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Visual Analytics Department of the Applied Research Laboratory Penn State University is seeking a Research and Development Engineer to provide DevSecOps support of classified and unclassified computer systems in State College, PA

Responsibilities include

  • Using accepted methods and techniques, assist with the design, development, implementation, and analysis of Junior DevSecOps technical engineering products, systems and subsystems.
  • Learn and apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes, primarily related to Junior DevSecOps projects.
  • Complete assignments with quality, timeliness and efficiency.
  • Recognize and report any issues or anything unusual about work being performed.

This position will be filled as a level 1 or a level 2, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are require for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science and Technology, or a related Engineering/Science degree is preferred.

As a Level 2 additional duties will include:

  • Determine causes of unusual occurrences and apply standard principles and practices to determine and implement solutions
  • May mentor and/or train lower level employees and students in the department and/or division

Experience and knowledge with the some of the following is desirable:

  • VMware and ESXi
  • Linux & Windows administration
  • Automation of development workflows
  • Automated deployment frameworks

Requirements include:

  • A well-rounded skillset with a strong drive to learn more and receptive to constant upgrading of skills and computer related knowledge
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment to ensure highest level of availability and performance of our mission critical services
  • The ability to be flexible with rapidly changing priorities
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to multi-task
  • A good comfort level working in a diverse atmosphere.
