Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Senior level strategist who will lead and inspire team of brand experts and relationship managers to help clarify Oxfam’s public brand positioning and help build emotional connections with a pipeline of potential Oxfam supporters over the long term. The team works to deliver a diverse and growing community of people who are inspired and committed to fighting inequality to end poverty and injustice with Oxfam. Brand and Engagement staff work across the agency and build relationships with brand partners, hunger banquet organizers in local communities, the entertainment industry, and other influencers to deepen their relationship to Oxfam and our mission.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using building blocks of past Oxfam initiatives and liaising with internal stakeholders within Public Engagement (PE) and across divisions, build and execute a focused and innovative Brand and Engagement team strategy that helps develop emotional connections with a pipeline of potential Oxfam supporters over the long term long-term and builds the Oxfam brand.
  • Lead a team of brand experts to create and inform innovative strategies that will deliver on Public Engagement and organizational goals to make Oxfam the premier global organization working on issues of inequality.
  • In collaboration with PE leadership and the Audience Insights Lead develop a targeted audience plan that will guide the Brand & Engagement team’s strategies
  • Develop system for tracking and measuring brand efficacy and supporter growth to inform future work and foster a learning environment within team.
  • Serve as a key member of PE leadership team. Provide input into how to balance competing opportunities, meet divisional goals, and prioritize projects in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Fulfill management responsibilities, including, but not limited to, budgetary duties, hiring, providing staff development and related consultative skills, and performance evaluations.
  • Liaise with Oxfam International’s brand manager’s group, including overseeing Global Brand Identity System.
  • Build brand literacy across Oxfam America by overseeing staff workshops, brand communications tools, and Brand Tracker annual research.
  • Collaborate with Design, Digital Marketing and Supporter Engagement and creative consultants to provide direction on development of creative brand communications.
  • Oversee and evolve the Oxfam America Hunger Banquet program into a major tool for attracting and engaging new Oxfam supporters. Explore other similar initiatives for securing a pipeline of new and diverse Oxfam supporters and engaging current supporters.
  • Oversee music outreach and entertainment relations programs, managing both risk and opportunity.
  • Oversee legal trademark protection. Serve as liaison with intellectual property legal counsel.
  • With support of the Global Brand Lead, scope the development of brand partnerships program that would leverage Oxfam corporate relationships for the purposes of elevating brand visibility within defined audience segments.
  • Serve as member of Ethical Steering Committee, vetting possible engagements at the intersection of fundraising, brand, and the private sector.
  • Scope the development of Oxfam youth engagement program.
  • Serve as spokesperson for Oxfam’s outreach efforts with media and represent Oxfam at strategically scheduled speaking events, national and regional network conferences.
  • Collaborate with the Oxfam confederation to expand supporter engagement across affiliates and work with international colleagues to maintain global brand consistency and deliver a consistent, high quality, and coordinated experience to the entertainment sector.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the organization on our overall supporter journey, including those leading Oxfam’s Campaigning and Organizing efforts, Direct Marketing, and Digital Marketing and Supporter Engagement.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Will stay abreast of professional standards, marketplace trends, and will have a keen knowledge of successful brand strategies from the non-profit, cause-related, or global organization sector, demonstrating continuous learning of the field.
  • Will have fundamental understanding of the marketing mix and Oxfam America's marketing channels.
  • Will stay familiar with Oxfam programs, advocacy, and campaigning issues and strategies.
  • Project a positive and collaborative attitude in all aspects of duties, both internal and external, creating a culture of innovation and responsible risk-taking.
  • Will work effectively and collaboratively in support of building a team-based, problem-solving work culture of work, treating all persons with dignity and respect, and will be familiar with and committed to Oxfam America’s mission, values, and goals.
  • Will have a fundamental understanding of gender justice and diversity within key areas of responsibility and a commitment to promoting gender justice, racial equity, and diversity in our workplace and programs.
  • Within key areas of responsibility, will have a commitment to and be accountable for activities contributing towards a safe and accountable workplace environment, projects and relationships for staff, partners, and the communities we serve.
  • Willingness and ability to travel in the US and occasionally overseas (approximately 3-6 weeks a year).

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fifteen or more years of relevant experience in global brand, marketing, brand partnerships, cross-cultural communications, activism, organizing, or service learning, including work with cause-related organizations working with limited resources.
  • Program development and project management experience.
  • Creative communications development, experience managing creative agencies and consultants.
  • External relationship management experience.
  • Risk/Crisis management experience.
  • Program and team management leadership experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience leading diverse staff and volunteers, including team building, hiring, and conducting performance evaluations, and budgetary authority.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Excellent communications and influencing skills, both oral and written.
  • Data-driven, solutions-focused leader.
  • Ability to represent Oxfam with community groups.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Digital fluency and ability to use digital platforms for education or organizing purposes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the field of international development and human rights.
  • Multi-lingual.

Exempt / Manager / Non-Union / Band M

Salary Range - $160,000 - 165,000

DIRECT REPORTS: Brand and Engagement Manager, Brand and Engagement Advisor, and Senior Advisor for Brand and Strategic Initiatives.

COORDINATES WITH: PE team leads and staff across Digital Marketing and Supporter Engagement, Brand and Engagement, Design and Content, Senior Leadership Team, Executive Office, Alliances, Advocacy and Policy directors and managers, Global Programs and Impact directors and managers Senior Leadership Team, Resource Development managers and directors, and communications professionals in the Oxfam confederation.

This position can be remote position or work in-person out of the Boston or DC offices or hybrid.
