Director, Engineering
SeatGeek believes live events are powerful experiences that unite humans. With our technological savvy and fan-first attitude we’re simplifying and modernizing the ticketing industry.
SeatGeek is a product-centric organization that deploys code into production multiple times per day. As we grow, the scale of our technical challenges - and their effect on our customers and clients such as the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Cavaliers - continues to increase.
As the Engineering Director leading Fan Experience Foundation, you will lead an organization dedicated to building key cross-cutting functionality and leveling up our core shared codebases across our mobile, web, and backend applications. We are looking for an Engineering Director (open to varying levels of experience) to join SeatGeek’s R&D team.
What you'll do
- Guide the direction of our shared codebases used across the Fan Experience organization, ensuring we are building high quality, performant, and maintainable systems.
- Manage multiple engineering managers and teams of high-performing engineers
- Provide regular job performance feedback, one-on-ones, and career development support to your direct reports
- Participate in our recruiting process, helping us to grow our engineering team in any way you can
- Set strategic direction, drive planning cycles, and help keep our priorities in order
- Communicate technical and product decisions to the right people, resolve blocking issues, and keep our development machine humming
- ...and if you have any free time after doing all of that, writing code is always an excellent way to stay sharp!
What you have
- 5+ years of experience as an engineer in a role that was mostly about writing code, ideally in a backend or full stack context.
- 5+ years of experience as a manager of productive, high-performing engineering teams.
- 2+ years of experience managing other managers, driving strategic alignment a plus
- Terrific communication skills. You understand how to lead by setting context
- Irreproachable technical skills. Your team should look up to you as a mentor
- Knowledge of industry trends in tools and technologies. You can help your team make good tooling and framework decisions that will set them up for success
- A keen interest in partnering with product, design and stakeholders on what to do as well as how to do it.
The tools we use
You absolutely do not need experience with all of these, but we thought you might be curious. Tools can be learned, so we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language.
