Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Director, Finance to join our Commercial Finance team. This is a critical leadership position on the team which will partner closely with the General Manager of a business team as well as various other commercial business leaders to provide all business performance reporting data, drive business results, lead budgeting and forecasting, and lead a small but growing team. The Director, Finance will also work closely with the VP of Corporate Finance and the CFO in driving continuous improvements to the company’s forecasting, budgeting, and reporting processes and explaining variances to the corporate forecast. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, successful relevant experience with Executive-level engagement, and demonstrated success operating at depth to provide insights to deliver results. This role must balance many deliverables simultaneously, improve and transform processes and relationships across several different and expanding business models, and display strong leadership and development skills both with direct reports and across the broader organization.

What you'll do:

  • Lead financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for a business vertical
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders across the entire company to define KPIs, build forecasts and budgets, and track performance while explaining variances to plan, identifying risks and opportunities, and driving strategic business initiatives to deliver profitability and working capital targets
  • Work closely with Commercial business leads to analyze investment opportunities, provide strategic guidance on business growth opportunities, and prioritize resources
  • Lead and continue to grow a team of analysts and managers responsible for developing financial models and reporting tools for the growing business needs
  • Drive continuous improvement to financial processes and workflows
  • Partner with other Finance team members in monthly forecast cycles, working with functional leaders to identify planning assumptions for key business drivers
  • Collaborate with various teams (e.g., Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Merchandising, and Accounting) to improve data quality and speed to reporting while ensuring that performance is accurately reported
  • Create ad-hoc materials for C-suite and Board consumption

What you'll need:

  • BS in Finance, Engineering, or Business and excellent professional track record in global organization(s)
  • 10+ years in commercial/merchandising finance roles focused on increasing sales and margin, leading staff, P&L financial responsibility, and the development of strategies and budgets
  • Deep understanding of retail (e-commerce and/or airline revenue management are a plus)
  • Experience within a “best practices” Finance organization where Finance is viewed as a business partner
  • Strong analytical, business acumen, and technical skills
  • Expert at PowerPoint and Excel with experience with planning tools
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, and financial modeling
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with associates at all levels, board members, and key external partners; strong verbal and written presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial concepts in a simple way and to tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences
  • Ability to manage and deliver on competing projects and requests from all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated success in the leadership of multiple projects that have driven enhanced value via identification of growth initiatives and cost efficiencies
  • Ability to think globally, strategically, and objectively and to effectively translate data into actionable insights, strategies, and financial plans
  • Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Proven record in attracting, developing, and motivating the talent needed for current and future business requirements; able to establish high performance expectations by aligning individual goals with overall business objectives
  • Experience in coaching team members to success and holding individuals accountable for achieving results
  • Ability to build collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with all stakeholders
  • Able to work through complex disagreements and conflict to achieve resolution
  • Experience building trust by including others and by keeping the cross-functional teams focused on the success of the entire company
