Our Ways of Working

We have team members located across the United States spanning multiple time zones. This means we put in extra effort to make sure we connect and collaborate in ways that make sense for us. We know how valuable the flexibility of remote work is for our employees.

We know that personal connection is the foundation for the great work we do together. In order to build those relationships with team members in other cities, we meet with coworkers in person two times a year at a full company offsite and a departmental offsite. These offsites are expected of employees and are great opportunities to meet the people you work with every day and to do some of the work that is much more difficult to do virtually.

What The Role Is

As the Director of Consumer Product, you will play a critical role in the overall direction and success of Babylist. This is a highly visible leadership position, with consistent c-level strategic and working sessions, that owns the strategy and product-development process for our core consumer experiences. You will build and develop a team of world-class Product Managers who, alongside engineering and design, will deliver against the strategic milestones you establish.

Millions of expecting parents choose Babylist to help them plan for their growing families. They turn to us for content, discovery, registry building, gift management, personal health, and much more - your role will lead us in building high-utility and high-delight experiences, making it easy for parents (and gift givers) to feel confident during this exciting time. Babylist users interact with us across all major platforms, including iOS, Android, and mobile & desktop web. The Director of Consumer Product will operate on a massive scale, impacting millions of consumers by developing great experiences across millions of devices.

Who You Are

  • You have a proven track record as a world class Product leader. You can speak in detail to examples of insightful strategy development, execution and delivery, and strong consumer advocacy.
  • You have a clear and thoughtful process for hiring and developing Product Managers. You can speak to how you have elevated individual contributors and grown team leaders. You understand that the best teams consist of talented people who volunteer to be in your org.
  • Your product portfolio shows a deep understanding of building from consumer behavior and data. While you have mastered the general principles of product development, you aren’t reliant solely on “best practices” to make smart and innovative decisions.
  • You deeply understand the connections across the company and build products that capitalize on our core strengths. You operate with a mantra of “no surprises” and understand how to directly connect product development to business outcomes.
  • You believe in building on a foundation of data and analytics. You have a strong spidey-sense for when something may be off and can go multiple levels deep into the data (or elsewhere) to find the root cause. You fix issues in a durable and visible way.
  • You are a strong partner with Design and Engineering leadership. You can have deep conversations speaking in technical or design terms. You build credibility in the product by creating a high-bar way forward across these teams when stuck.
  • You can think big and act small when needed. This means having a clear long-term vision while delivering consumer value each cycle. You don’t let teams get hung up or overinvest in the pursuit of a false sense of perfection.
  • Finally, you are a strong advocate for the consumer. You understand the how, when, and why they use our products (or choose not to). You bring the conversation back to the consumer if teams may have lost focus.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Lead a team of high performing product managers working on the registry and gifting experiences. This is our core value proposition and a highly visible role
  • Trusted partner with engineering, design, and executive leadership. You will play a key role in defining the vision and strategy for the registry user experience
  • Build a deep understanding of the customer journey and interactions (think of this as our funnel). Work closely with marketing to guide users from onboarding to engagement to retention and re-engagement
  • Play a key role in creating lifetime customer value by developing new communication platforms like SMS and extensible site-wide placements
  • Build trusted and durable relationships with business leaders and the executive team so that you can debate, gain buy-in, and align on roadmaps and goals
  • Exemplify customer-first thinking. Participate in customer panels, read NPS feedback, and work closely with UXR and CS to deepen our understanding of how best to serve our customers
  • Own and drive key metrics such as acquisition, NPS, and overall registry value
