Director, Product Management, Codespaces

GitHub Codespaces enabled developers to instantly start coding with a complete developer environment in the cloud. Codespaces provides up to 60 hours a month for free and support for multiple editors so developers can use it for any project. It’s used by brand-new developers, data scientists, and large development teams, including GitHub - who builds all of GitHub using Codespaces. The new GitHub Codespaces features released at GitHub Universe 2022 have even further accelerated the growth of Codespaces and this role will define and lead the future of the product.

We’re looking for a Director of Product to lead the GitHub Codespaces team. The GitHub Codespaces team is responsible for providing an experience that developers love and making Codespaces a successful business. In this role, you’ll define the vision and product strategy for GitHub Codespaces and lead a team of experienced product managers to improve the product and expand its scope.

What you will be doing:

  • Create and deliver the product vision. You will be responsible for a vision that aligns with customer needs and GitHub’s goals, as well as defining and delivering key results.
  • Build deep expertise on the needs of GitHub developers (and developers generally), ranging from individual developers to developers working for large companies.
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, and revenue teams to provide a great end-to-end experience.
  • Engage with developers, partners, and customers to identify opportunities to deliver value, and build relationships to better understand how to serve our users.
  • Drive the pace of shipping and learning across teams, while maintaining our high quality bar.
  • Mentor and grow your team. Help each of your product managers grow their skills and be successful in their areas. This includes frequent feedback and coaching, as well as creating opportunities for growth.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of engineering, developer evangelism, product management, program management, or equivalent experience with demonstrated ability to discover opportunities and define and deliver products.
  • 3+ years leadership and people management experience.
  • Previous experience working on developer products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical abilities and a track record of working through complex technical problems.
  • Deep experience with large-scale compute services and containers.
  • Previous experience with data science workflows and Jupyter notebooks.
  • Strong communication skills, with clear verbal communication as well as explicit and mindful written communication skills.

Location: In this role, you can work remotely from anywhere in the following Canadian provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario
