About the role:
The Director of Tax will lead global tax strategy and compliance for Easypost, a high-growth company with SAAS and Services revenue. This includes oversight of the income tax provision, quarter-end sales/use tax compliance, as well as long-term income tax planning strategies, M&A due diligence, and step plans.
What you will do:
o Manage tax compliance for both direct and indirect taxes including international operations.
o Develop and lead tax strategy, assessing the tax impact of strategic initiatives, and driving tax decisions that support business objectives.
o Provide thought leadership to modernize processes and build business cases for investment needed. Directly responsible for the success of projects.
o Implement transfer pricing strategy and update transfer pricing policies and related documentation.
o Manage worldwide GAAP tax provisions, tax reserves (FIN 48 & FAS 5), and related disclosures and ensure their accuracy with controls you design and oversee.
o Approve all judgments related to uncertain tax positions and valuation allowances.
o Ensure indirect tax compliance and provide strategic advice on sales/VAT and withholding tax considerations (payroll, customer, and vendor-related).
o Collaborate with Accounting, Treasury, and FP&A to optimize processes related to financial close, the timing of payments, offshore cash levels, and GAAP/Non GAAP tax rate forecasts.
o Oversee audits and lead discussions with authorities as it relates to potential audit findings and tax positions.
o Provide local tax requirements and review local financial statements to ensure timely and accurate statutory filings. Provide risk assessment and advice in M&A due diligence mergers/acquisitions to ensure there are no surprises as it relates to purchase accounting or tax rate impact Requirements.
o Manage, develop, and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative culture with a focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and operational excellence skills.
About you:
o Bachelor’s degree
o Strong understanding of ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes; FIN 48, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, SOX 404 process controls, GAAP accounting and the Internal Revenue Code
o 10+ years of progressive and directly relevant experience in a multinational company or big 4 firm
o Technical hands-on experience must include international cost-sharing model, tax accounting for valuation allowances and uncertain tax positions, indirect taxes in multiple countries
o Must be able to evaluate risk and probability against business objectives
o Effective communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex tax issues and communicate them in a clear and succinct manner
o Able to create long-term vision and mitigating strategies – demonstrated ability to plan for multiple scenarios
o Big 4 experience and a Masters in Tax preferred
o Experience as a Lead for M&A Tax due diligence and purchase accounting (through implementation of step plan)
o SAAS and Services revenue experience
o NetSuite Proficiency a plus
