Editor-in-Chief – APC Media (American Painting Contractor)

APC Media is a powerful and influential resource in the professional painting industry. APC team members are creative and make a difference – we create content to engage our readers…content that can significantly improve our readers’ lives by helping them become more successful and less stressed!

The Editor-in-Chief position is a fabulous, full-time, fully remote, salaried position with benefits. We meet via Zoom regularly. The position involves some travel – 4-6 trips/year of 2-4 days/each.

APC Media includes the following products:

  • APC Magazine: The #1 Resource for painting contractors…a 100-year, national, B2B publication dedicated to helping business owners operate more successful, profitable and fulfilling painting businesses. Published 9x/year, we focus on business operations applications, tools and trends. 
  • Paint News: A weekly enewsletter reaching more than 20,000 painting contractors. 
  • Paintmag.com: The hub of all APC information, paintmag.com houses all APC content – podcasts, digital editions, features and news.
  • Paint Radio: The industry podcast for painting contractors
  • Paint TV: A portal for contractor and manufacturer painting videos.

Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities

The Editor-in-Chief has the ability and desire to influence tens of thousands of business owners, literally helping them become happier, more fulfilled, more satisfied, more financially secure people. 

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for APC’s editorial products and engages business owners across print, e-newsletter, web, social, podcast and video. The Editor-in-Chief works with the Publisher and Marketing Manager to promote and deliver APC’s unique content to readers and prospective readers…to share our awesomeness with everyone who can enjoy and benefit from it!

Recruit and/or write content and supervise design for 9 print magazines/year.

Write/Recruit content and supervise design for weekly e-newsletter.

Maintain a regular and engaging social media presence, establishing yourself as an accessible thought-leader in the industry and maintaining APC’s high level of integrity.

Recruit content and guests, schedule and co-host podcast with Publisher.

Potentially host and direct APC videos.

On occasion, speak at industry events.

Assist Marketing Manager in writing/editing promo copy for all APC products.

Work closely with the sales team to identify potential marketing clients while maintaining APC’s long-held and well-deserved reputation for editorial integrity.

Desired Skills

  1. Strong grasp of and love for the English language!
  2. An enthusiastic story-teller with a strong desire to engage people, understand their needs and share their successes.
  3. Demonstrated catalog of content creation and audience engagement.
  4. Ability to generate a variety of content, from longer, technically detailed application descriptions to human-interest features; from engaging headlines to clever social media posts.
  5. Ability to handle a fluid schedule with multiple deadlines. If you believe it’s an opportunity, not a burden, you may be a good fit for our team!
  6. Familiarity with social media, especially Facebook. Experience with YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok is a plus.
  7. Some experience with podcasts and videos also a plus – planning, directing, hosting.
  8. Ability to be calm, cool, collected and organized is crucial. 
  9. Ability and desire to meet expectations and accept new challenges without continuous supervision.
  10. Positive outlook, team player, solidly enthusiastic…that would be wonderful!

Salary: $55,000-$65,000/Annually
