Description

As the editor for Stacker Connect, you will edit submitted brand stories to meet Stacker editorial guidelines and follow those stories through the production process, including updating stories in the CMS after client review, to prepare them for syndication on our newswire. Reporting to the Head of Connect Editorial, you will edit coverage from a mix of for-profit orgs like Experian, SmartAsset, and Rocket Home, and nonprofit newsrooms such as The Marshall Project, The Hechinger Report, and Grist, helping produce an invaluable 3rd party newswire distributed to thousands of partner news outlets.

Our mission is to empower the world’s publishers. Stacker’s newswire serves over 3,000 local news partners, ranging from major networks like Hearst, McClatchy and Advance to hundreds of independent outlets. Composed of both in-house coverage and 3rd party coverage, the newswire helps complement the coverage of our publishing partners and engage their readers in new ways. We're looking for an experienced editor who is excited to edit features in a deadline-oriented newswire environment while also understanding how to work effectively with brand clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing stories, providing edits and feedback to partners, and packaging content within our CMS for distribution to our network
  • Ensure all syndicated content is accurate and meets Stacker's editorial standards while helping to ensure smooth review processes with partners
  • Suggest opportunities for process adjustments, product features, and resource requests and working across teams to drive improvements

Requirements

Must-haves:

  • Proven editorial experience: 4+ years experience in journalism or a related field, with 2+ years experience in a editor role. This should include a history of maintaining high journalistic standards, a keen eye for storytelling, and the ability to discern the newsworthiness and integrity of content from diverse sources.
  • Content marketing and/or brand-funded journalism experience: the ability to tactfully communicate editorial standards to clients and manage back-and-forth on brand content in a way that both addresses client needs and optimizes their stories for earned media pickup by newswire publishing partners.
  • Experience with data-driven storytelling and data visualizations: the ability to assess and address any issues with the data methodologies in stories submitted by clients for Connect syndication.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with content syndication: Demonstrated understanding and experience in content syndication, re-syndication, or similar partnerships. This includes familiarity with the nuances of working with brand partners and nonprofit newsrooms, ensuring content aligns with Stacker's values and standards.
  • Passion for local journalism: understanding of the coverage strengths, aspirations, and gaps of the local journalism landscape with an eagerness to help support newsrooms.
  • Experience reviewing and editing personal finance/health/real estate coverage and data journalism
