Editorial Intern
The Ringer, launched by Bill Simmons in 2016, is a website, podcast network, and scripted and non-scripted video production house crafting an innovative blend of sports, pop culture, politics, and tech content. The Ringer Podcast Network includes more than 30 popular podcasts, featuring chart-topping shows such as “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” “The Rewatchables,” and “The Ryen Russillo Podcast,” among many others. The Ringer was acquired by Spotify in 2020.
We are looking for a sharp, motivated editorial ace to work with The Ringer’s copy desk and special projects team. You will fact-check stories, build pages in our CMS, and contribute to our collection of bespoke microsites, among other duties.
What you'll do
- Fact check editorial for The Ringer, using research best practices, topical awareness, and sound journalistic judgment
- Use the CMS Chorus to build pages for publication on the website
- Complete general research assignments as needed by our editors and writers
- Execute other general tasks as needed in the editorial department
- Pitch Ringer editors on compelling story ideas that align with our mission
- Work with The Ringer’s special projects team to launch, update, and maintain our custom builds (e.g., our Streaming Guide and our NFL Draft Guide)
Who you are
- A current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in journalism, media, communication, or any liberal arts discipline and planning to graduate in 2023/2024
- You currently have valid work authorization to work in the country in which this role is based that will extend from June to August 2023
- You know how to do deep, accurate online research while on deadline … communicate with and function within highly distributed teams … pitch story ideas that align with The Ringer’s core coverage areas … produce writing that merits publication in The Ringer … work within a CMS … make meaningful contributions to complex databases and related projects
- You are experienced with working within a digital publishing environment … writing for sports and/or pop culture audiences … performing on deadline
- You have a deep understanding of basketball, football, general sports statistics, movies, television, and music
- You care about producing editorial content at high, exacting standards
- You have demonstrated experience with a digital publication that you can tell us about

- Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location
- For this role, you can also choose to either work from home or from one of our office locations
Our paid summer internships last for 10 or 12 weeks and start at the beginning of June. The last day to apply is April 19, 2023 at 11:59 PM ET.
The United States hourly rate for this position is 27.00 USD (Undergraduate First Year & Sophomores), 32.00 USD (Undergraduate Juniors & Seniors), 44.00 USD (Masters) & 58.00 USD (PhD) per hour plus a one-time intern stipend of 2,253 USD. This position is overtime eligible. These rates may be modified in the future.
