Propel is on a mission to empower low-income Americans by simplifying access to government benefits with modern technology. All of our users deserve first-class experiences in their daily interactions with the social safety net and financial services. We're a passionate team of 100 Propellers - all working to help our users get through the month, every month.

We're looking for an experienced Editorial Lead to manage and elevate our growing emphasis on content for all means-tested benefits. As our editor, you will play a dual role: overseeing the editorial process from start to finish, while also rolling up your sleeves to edit articles. You’ll project manage various elements of the editorial process, ensuring deadlines are met, content is aligned with our brand’s voice, and SEO best practices are applied. You will be a key driver of the editorial vision, helping us meet and exceed growth targets, while creating content that’s insightful, engaging, accessible, and actionable.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and organize the editorial process for a growing content initiative, including planning, scheduling, and executing Propel’s editorial projects (~10 articles per month)
  • Collaborate with freelance writers, internal and external experts, designers, and freelancers to create articles. Then, edit and refine them, ensuring the highest quality in terms of clarity, tone, accuracy, and SEO optimization
  • Develop and execute content strategy to improve organic traffic and meet/exceed conversion and engagement goals
  • Track key performance metrics and use data-driven insights to continuously refine and improve the strategy
  • Build out a unique, scalable content library (think NerdWallet, Credit Karma, The Infatuation, etc.) for means-tested benefits & policies that can be added in and repurposed across many articles
  • Work closely with marketing, product, and policy teams to ensure content is aligned with broader business objectives and brand messaging

What You Need

  • 8+ years editing and managing editorial projects, with a proven track record of successfully managing all parts of the editorial process
  • 3+ years in means-tested benefits, social safety net, healthcare, and/or fintech-specific content, with a strong understanding of industry trends and customer needs
  • Proven success in hitting and surpassing editorial goals and KPIs, with a data-driven, goal-oriented approach to content
  • Expertise in SEO and the ability to apply SEO best practices to create content that drives organic growth.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, able to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working with digital content tools (e.g., CMS platforms, Google Analytics, and SEO tools).
  • Ideal candidate has been at a startup before–or has experience in a small, scrappy team working on innovative projects at a larger organization.
  • Strong passion for making government benefits more accessible and easier to navigate for the people that need it most through “best answer on the Internet-quality” content and education.

Full Time Employees at Propel enjoy:

  • Meaningful work and a strong shared sense of mission
  • Remote-friendly work environment, headquartered in Downtown Brooklyn and satellite offices in San Francisco and Salt Lake City. The team meets in-person for optional retreats
  • 20 Days of PTO

More About Propel

We believe that Americans with limited income deserve modern, respectful, and effective experiences around their government benefits and money. Unfortunately, the status quo often fails to treat them as first-class citizens in their daily interactions around the social safety net and financial services. The tech industry hasn’t pulled its weight in solving the problems faced by low-income Americans.

Propel’s mission is to change that. We’ve built Providers, the single most popular app in the country built specifically for low-income Americans. Over 5 million families each month use Providers to seamlessly manage their government benefits (programs like SNAP, commonly known as food stamps), conduct their banking, and save and earn money. Providers has been recognized by the White House, featured on the front page of the NYTimes, and carries over 500,000 five star reviews.

Propel is a for-profit, venture-backed company that holds its social mission at its core. We’re proud to be supported by a blend of nonprofits, impact investors, and world-class investors, including the Robin Hood Foundation, Andreessen Horowitz, Nyca Partners, Financial Health Network, JPMorganChase, Kevin Durant, Serena Williams, and Nas.

Join us, and let's build something amazing together!
