Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Editor II or Editor III (Editor or Senior Editor) to take charge of a successful and diverse textbook portfolio in Business and Management. Our Business and Management textbooks programme aims to provide students and faculty with insight, analysis and guidance for study, research and practice. Our editorial mission is to balance commercial requirements with editorial quality, to deliver and develop discoverable, relevant books and related products for our primary audiences.

Working as part of a global team across Business, Economics and Law, this role focuses on growing an existing portfolio of Business and Management textbooks via strategic acquisition of new titles and updated editions. Perfect for a confident and entrepreneurial communicator, this position will succeed when the successful candidate can create, build and enhance editorial relationships to acquire books and related products that add value for our customers.

Qualifications

What you’ll be doing:

  • Strategic acquisition of new books and updated new editions that respond to current market needs;
  • Researching the field to identify the most profitable opportunities to target, and identifying changes and developments in higher education teaching in the relevant areas;
  • Researching, developing and commissioning appropriate digital learning resources;
  • Managing contracted titles to schedule and to budget;
  • Liaising closely with authors, series editors, and internal colleagues in editorial, production, marketing, and sales, and acting as a product champion;
  • Extensive digital networking, with the possibility of some travel.

What we're looking for:

  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to interpret financial data;
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Strong publishing knowledge and the ability to quickly develop subject knowledge across a range of areas;
  • Time management, prioritization and organizational skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative;
  • Superb team-working skills, to work with internal and external contacts at all levels;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience of commissioning academic books is essential. An interest in Business and Management and related areas would be welcomed, but a background in this subject is not a requirement.
