About the Position

Spate is looking for an experienced full stack developer to help accelerate the development of our core product: a browser-based consumer behavior analytics dashboard.

This is a full time contract position. Our company works on EST timezone. For this role, you must be flexible enough to have a 4 hour overlap within our working hours of 9am - 5pm EST.

About Spate

Spate is your machine intelligence solution for finding the next big consumer trend.

Spate is a Y Combinator-backed company, founded by two ex-Googlers Yarden Horwitz and Olivier Zimmer who started Google's Trendspotting division and spotted trends such as face masks, turmeric and cold brew (ie Google Skin Care Trends Report, Google Food Trends Report).

How do we do this? We tap into publicly available consumer data (anonymous and aggregated) to identify exciting shifts in consumer behavior.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Will independently build, and own, full features and components of our 5-year-old full stack application.
  • Brings a nuanced sense of UI/UX design principles and attention to detail when collaborating with our design team.
  • Will tenaciously chase and resolve frontend issues across different modern browsers and devices.
  • Will meaningfully improve our software development practice and process. For example, by improving our tooling, refactoring and cleaning up the code base, adding tests, iterating on process, or in any other relevant ways.

Requirements

Who You Are

  • You have proven experience building complex apps with modern JavaScript-based framework. Bonus for deep knowledge of React, Redux, or TanStack Query.
  • You have some expertise building on top of one or more modern data visualization libraries, such as D3.
  • You are meticulous and can build detailed, reactive, highly polished user interfaces. Bonus points for having a portfolio of completed UI and UX work we can see.
  • We are a small team, and we move fast. Bonus points if you have some experience working on Python stack backends (or have a keen interest in developing some experience), so you can unblock yourself sometimes.

Tech Stack

It’s not a requirement to have experience with this exact tech stack so long as you can be highly effective or get up to speed quickly in our code base.

Frontend: React, Redux/TanStack Query, Styled Components

Backend: Python (Flask) and PostgreSQL

Benefits

Projects You Might Work On

  • Develop or refactor existing data visualization components to help users explore, understand, and export complex datasets more effectively.
  • Implement features that allow users to customize their dashboard layout and save personalized views.
  • Improve the API that powers our dashboard, unlocking new analysis types and features for our users and increasing velocity of the dev team.

Why Spate?

  • Join a well-funded company that is working with the top brands in consumer goods
  • Work directly with the founders to set the direction of the company
  • Grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Always be up-to-date on the latest trends!
