The Nitty Gritty:
Reporting to our Senior Engineering Manager, you'll be working on our flagship games - YoWorld and FishWorld! The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Game Developer with expertise in Javascript, Typescript, Java and PHP and will develop game features for YoWorld and Fishworld. The successful candidate will work closely with our live operations and production teams to update the user-facing aspects of our games, including features, UX, Production and Marketing tools, and will support automation. The candidate will be responsible for bug fixing, testing and all game development. This role will be part of our Game Features team and is remote in Ontario.
As we are looking for someone experienced in Game Development, this is not an entry-level role.
The Duties:
- Implement modern web design principles to ensure that our games render well across multiple devices
- Monitor game performance, watch for behavior changes related to site usability problems and rectify any issues
- Provide feedback and estimates on new features and bug fixes if there are technical feasibility issues
- Collaborate with internal staff to create game tools
- Implement server APIs for features and manage their database interactions
- Agile prototyping of new features for the game
- Design a framework for creating games that grow with the needs of the company
- Improve tools and automation to support live operations and marketing.
Requirements
The Must Haves:
- At least 4 years working in a Game Development role
- Expertise and proven work experience in ALL of: HTML5, Javascript/Typescript, PHP, and Java
- Proven experience with:
- designing with performance in mind, enabling interactive sites supporting very large numbers of users
- designing responsive web experiences targeting multiple form factors and screen sizes
- designing and implementing interactive web-based gaming experiences
- Experience with both creating and using Game Design Documents (GDD) to enhance the user experience
- Up to date knowledge of modern web security practices
- Proficiency writing highly optimized queries for MySQL / MariaDB
- Extensive experience in live ops game environments, having successfully shipped multiple features or at least one live title from concept to release
- Track record of working in game development teams with a minimum of one launched live title, and having contributed to the development of multiple released features
- A passion for games!
The Nice to Haves:
- Familiar with microservices and distributed architecture
- Experience with frameworks such as React
- Game Engine experience with Unity, Unreal etc.
- Github or other code repository
