Sword Health is seeking a Global Payroll Manager to be responsible for overseeing all aspects of global payroll processing for Sword Health’s global employees and contractors. This includes responsibility for payroll processing, payroll accounting activities, reconciliation, analysis, and compliance with local and federal regulations for Sword’s global employee and contractor payroll. This candidate will also support processing and reporting stock-based compensation and related tax forms.
The ideal candidate has experience owning a high-functioning, global payroll function, and will continually drive process and system improvements in pursuit of an accurate, compliant, timely, and scalable payroll process. This person will manage a small team of payroll specialists, and will also need to roll up their sleeves to support execution.
What You'll Do:
• Own the global payroll processes, driving ongoing system and process improvements with a focus on compliance, accuracy, efficiency, and automation.
• Build and manage a best-in-class team of payroll specialists who will drive both the timely and accurate execution of payroll processing, payroll analytics, and will respond to payroll inquiries with an employee-centric mindset.
• Own the accurate and timely calculation and payment of all payroll and related compensation expenses. Oversee and review all payroll entries, which include but are not limited to salary payments, hourly wage calculations, incentives and bonuses, one-time payments, termination checks, LOA entries, 401K, and other integrations.
• Own the final reconciliation and auditing processes for all payroll cycles, and support internal and external auditors’ requests. Prepare payroll analysis reports and reviews.
• Implement new payroll and time tracking systems to help streamline and automate the global payroll processes. Serve as the subject matter expert in vendor selection and implementation to ensure that business needs are translated into system functionality.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for all global payroll-related matters.
• Partner cross-functionally with other teams (e.g. People, Clinical Operations) to streamline systems and processes that impact global payroll processing.
• Ensure that all payroll-related tax and statutory filings are compliant with all jurisdictions across all regions.
• Process and report all equity-related transactions, ensuring accurate reporting and tax and other statutory filings.
• Experience with choosing payroll systems and transitioning away from a PEO.
• Implement an HRIS.
What we’re looking for:
• 8+ years of payroll-related experience, including several years experience in payroll at a high-growth company. BA/BS in accounting, finance, human resources or equivalent work experience required.
• 3+ years of experience managing a comprehensive payroll process, including effectively managing direct reports.
• Experience with multi-state and international payrolls for employee groups larger than 500 employees and with multiple classifications.
• Demonstrated experience building best-in-class payroll processes and systems for a high-growth company, as measured in revenue growth of 3x+ YoY and/or headcount growth of 2x+ YoY.
• Intermediate/advanced Excel skills, including but not limited to index/match formulas, vlookup formulas, and pivot tables. Comfort manipulating large datasets.
• Experience working with ADP payroll system; experience working with Rippling is a nice-to-have.
• Experience in implementing a new payroll system is required.
• Demonstrated project management experience, with repeated success managing teams and initiatives against deadlines.
• Strong ownership mindset: demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally and to roll up their sleeves to get the necessary things accomplished.
• High attention to detail: demonstrated ability to use business intuition and strong analytical skills to complete every check in an efficient, thorough manner.
• Process-oriented problem-solver: demonstrated ability to improve the payroll process each time, every time. Always looking for ways to make things more accurate, compliant, and efficient and takes a proactive approach to improving the systems and processes to support payroll.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing an HR MIS and moving away from a PEO.
• Knows what goods looks like and has experience with companies growing between 300 and 1500 employees.
