Head of Talent Science

The Role

We are looking for an experienced researcher to lead our Talent Science team and Skills Evaluation Lab. You will:

  • Lead a team of experts in personnel selection, talent management, and learning and development
  • Partner with internal cross-functional stakeholders to advise on best practices from Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology research, and disseminate thought leadership to elevate the voice of the team
  • Act as a strategic partner and SME in talent assessment and learning and development to external client stakeholders
  • Ensure that scientific rigor and Talent Science perspectives are represented in strategic directions, product roadmaps and development, and client work 
  • Plan and conduct research studies related to job analysis, standardized testing, assessment validation, and learning and development

Day-to-Day 

  • Lead the Talent Science team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, providing them with actionable insights and recommendations on company strategies and directions
  • Lead and drive strategic conversations with external clients, understanding their organizational challenges and offering research-backed solutions
  • Articulate and support the business value of I-O research, including job analysis, psychometrics analyses, validation, and adverse impact studies, to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage research projects by allocating team bandwidth based on individual skill sets and availability, ensuring efficient execution and balanced workloads
  • Drive and support effective collaborations across multi-disciplinary research, product, engineering, and client-facing teams
  • Stay updated with the latest research in I-O psychology, and integrate new methodologies and tools into the team's practices
  • Stay updated with the latest legal landscape of talent assessments
  • Support career development for the Talent Science team

Basic Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in I-O Psychology or closely related field (i.e., social psychology, cognitive psychology, human resource management, human development, people analytics, etc.) or professional designations (i.e., SHRM-CP, PHR, etc.)
  • 5+ years of applied research experience in personnel selection, talent management, and/or learning and development
  • 2+ years of experience leading research teams
  • Demonstrated experience in consulting with clients on personnel selection and talent management practices, such as:
  • Deep expertise in assessment design and validation, including:
  • Proficiency in experimental research and survey methodologies
  • Proficiency in communicating technical information to technical and non-technical audiences across written and verbal formats
  • Proficiency in leading complex research projects with multiple stakeholders from beginning to end
  • Expertise in legal and regulatory guidelines around employment selection procedures and tools
  • Adaptable, creative, and thrives in a fast-paced work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in I-O Psychology or closely related field (i.e., social psychology, cognitive psychology, human resource management, human development, people analytics, etc.) or senior professional designations (i.e., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, etc.)
  • 8+ years of applied research experience in personnel selection, talent management, and/or learning and development
  • 3+ years of experience leading research teams
  • Proven experience in providing thought leadership and consultation to educate and influence key stakeholders
  • Experience with large-scale standardized assessment/testing programs
  • Experience articulating the downstream business impact of research and data-driven recommendations
  • Experience partnering with product developers and engineers to implement research-backed solutions into products
  • Experience interpreting findings/results from statistical analysis such as Adverse Impact Analysis, Regressions, HLM, Factor Analysis, Item Analysis
  • Expertise in developing and evaluating training, learning, and development programs or products 
  • Experience in talent acquisition technologies and technical hiring
  • Experience working remotely with teams distributed across the globe

Salary Projection

In accordance with local regulations in jurisdictions where CodeSignal may hire, we are projecting an annual base salary in the range of USD $120,000 - $180,000. This range is based on San Francisco benchmarks and encompasses all seniority levels eligible for this position. Offer packages often contain additional compensation in the form of commission or performance bonuses, equity, and/or benefits. Offers are awarded on an individual basis and are subject to factors such as, without limitation, a candidate’s level of experience, growth trajectory, and local labor market. Employees' compensation is reviewed and adjusted regularly.
