Head of Visual Design
Description
We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Head of Visual Design to join our organization as we continue to grow and refine our creative team. As the Head of Visual Design, you will report to the VP of Marketing and play a crucial role in driving the development and execution of our visual brand identity across our software products and various marketing channels. This is a highly strategic and creative position that requires a deep understanding of design principles, exceptional artistic skills, and the ability to lead and inspire a team of designers.
This role is 100% remote, full-time.
Salary Range - $120k - $150k
Essential Job Functions
- Lead and Manage Design Projects: Take ownership of design projects from concept to completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables that align with our brand guidelines and business objectives. Manage the design process, provide guidance, and maintain open communication with team members to ensure smooth project execution.
- Develop and Maintain Brand Identity: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, sales, and senior management to establish and evolve our brand identity. Create visual assets including logos, typography, color palettes, imagery, and other assets that reflect our brand values and resonate with our target audience.
- Support the Product Development Process: Work as part of the combined product design and development team and effectively collaborate with product designers, product managers, product marketers, project managers, operations, and engineers to ensure our product development milestones are successfully achieved.
- Provide Creative Direction: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their creative needs and translate them into compelling visual designs. Offer creative direction and guidance to junior designers, providing constructive feedback to enhance their skills and align their work with the overall brand vision.
- Stay Up-to-Date with Design Trends: Continuously research and analyze industry trends, design techniques, and emerging technologies to ensure our visual designs are innovative and competitive. Share insights and recommendations with the team to drive creative excellence.
- Mentor and Develop the Design Team: As a team lead, mentor and guide junior designers to help them reach their full potential. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages creativity, growth, and knowledge sharing.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all design assets meet high standards of quality, accuracy, and consistency. Perform thorough reviews of design materials before they are finalized and provide clear and actionable feedback to maintain a polished and professional visual presence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field: A formal education in design or a related field provides a solid foundation of design principles, theories, and techniques.
- B2B tech or fin technology experience
- A minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in visual design, preferably in a senior or lead role: This role requires a candidate with significant experience in visual design, preferably in a senior or lead capacity. The candidate should have a proven track record of successfully executing design projects and demonstrating leadership abilities.
- Exceptional artistic and conceptual skills, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects across various platforms: The ideal candidate should possess exceptional artistic skills, including a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of composition, and the ability to create visually compelling designs. Their portfolio should demonstrate versatility and proficiency in designing for different platforms, such as print, digital, web, and mobile.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud: The candidate should have expertise in industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, After Effects, and other relevant tools.
- In-depth knowledge of design principles, typography, color theory, and composition: The candidate should possess a deep understanding of design principles, including typography, color theory, and composition. They should be able to effectively use these principles to create visually harmonious and engaging designs.
- Proven experience in developing and maintaining brand identities: Brand identity plays a critical role in creating a consistent and memorable visual presence. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in developing and maintaining brand identities across various touchpoints, ensuring that the designs accurately reflect the brand's values, personality, and target audience.
Key Tools and Technology:
- Adobe Creative Cloud: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc is essential for creating and manipulating visual and video assets. Mastery of these tools allows for efficient design production and collaboration with other team members.
- Prototyping Tools: Knowledge of prototyping tools such as Adobe XD or Figma is advantageous. These tools enable the creation of interactive prototypes, allowing for user testing and feedback during the design process.
- Project Management Tools: Proficiency in project management tools like Asana, Trello, or Jira can help streamline workflows, track progress, and effectively collaborate with team members throughout the design process.
- Collaboration and Communication Tools: Experience with collaboration and communication tools like Slack, Google Drive, and Zoom is valuable for seamless communication and efficient file sharing within the design team and across cross-functional departments.
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS: Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS can be beneficial for designers who work closely with web developers or need to translate designs into code.
