Location: Strong preference for candidates located in the NYC metro area, but open to Remote in the US.

What is the role?

As the Indirect Tax Manager at Teachable, a portfolio company of Hotmart Co., you'll be a key member of the Global Tax team responsible for addressing the global tax needs across all companies under the Hotmart Co. umbrella, both internationally and domestically. Your role involves overseeing Teachable-related taxes and managing Hotmart’s global tax requirements, with a specific focus on US indirect tax needs for both Teachable and any of Hotmart's entities operating in the United States.

You’ll collaborate with Accounting, Data, Legal & Compliance, and Product teams to influence decisions impacting our business's risk profile. This role is pivotal in supporting Payments initiatives, the fastest-growing segment of our revenue. Occasional travel to Brazil and/or the Netherlands may be required.

What You'll Do:

  • Execute month-end close routine, including indirect tax calculations, reconciliation reports, SAP journal voucher entry, and internal control procedures.
  • Support sales tax and VAT/GST compliance, involving preparation of compliance calendars, tax return filing, sales tax returns, and payment reconciliation, with a global focus.
  • Address sales tax and VAT/GST queries from Creators and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing audit work papers, data, and schedules for tax authorities.
  • Conduct sales tax and VAT-related research, maintain taxability matrix, and stay updated on U.S. law changes.
  • Influence product and marketing strategy for taxation software, collaborating cross-functionally with product, data and engineering teams.
  • Manage U.S. and international registrations, update systems, and maintain exemption documentation.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly returns/filings, overseeing remittances.
  • Support the business by reviewing new products and revenue streams for taxability status.

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in indirect tax work, including compliance and audit in a technology company; SaaS experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Law.
  • Strong written communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with Vertex Cloud, Alvara, and Fonoa.
  • Strong attention to detail, adaptability in a startup environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and G Suite.
  • In-depth understanding of sales tax law, nexus, and marketplace facilitator laws.
  • Sales Tax School I certificate is a plus.
  • Experience in a publicly-traded company and Big4 experience are advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills, a dynamic and hands-on approach, and a collaborative team-player mindset.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.

Base salaries will be reviewed at regular intervals throughout the year, typically following performance review cycles currently conducted bi-annually or in conjunction with a promotion.

  • This role is open to remote candidates in the U.S.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 
  • For this role, the base salary range is $130,000 - $140,000. Total compensation also includes a competitive benefits package and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). A salary offer will be determined by a number of factors including experience, skill level, education, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all teammate pay and compensation programs regularly to ensure competitive and fair pay.
