The Lead Designer will have a leading role in how we approach creative for communications and campaigns and will directly contribute to our mission of removing barriers to mental health. This role will collaborate with the marketing team to produce visual content and campaigns for print, digital, email, direct mail, events, and web assets in a fast-paced startup environment. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work in collaboration with Design Director to evolve the visual look and feel of the brand
  • Drives team-wide adoption of new features and toolkits
  • Provide a fresh perspective, especially when it comes to member-facing direct response designs
  • Challenge the status quo of how we engage our audience by bringing fresh ideas and continually testing different designs and formats
  • Interface with print, event, and other vendors to produce high-quality, impactful creative that drives response
  • Leads multiple projects at the same time
  • Provide mentorship and oversight of design work created by design from lower levels
  • Provide guidance and creative direction to templates used by Member Marketing and Customer Success teams for co-branded assets and campaigns 
  • Regularly and proactively supports Creative Services management with their insights, e.g. on team dynamics and solutions for observed workflow issues.
  • Functions as a hub between Creative Services and other departments with the ability to connect people and topics where needed (Product Marketing, Sales & Customer Success team in alignment with management).
  • Finds ways to contribute to the advancement of other departments with their knowledge and expertise, e.g. by developing sustained rapports with peers.
  • Is responsible for how Designers on lower levels manage time and advises on task prioritization.

What we expect from you: (Qualification ex. education, experience, etc.) 

  • 8+ years graphic design experience in a fast-paced environment
  • 3+ years of experience effectively mentoring in-house and/or freelance designers 
  • Previous experience working on client or partner creative that requires thoughtful co-branding that maintains brand integrity for all parties
  • Strong knowledge of design techniques and comfort working on a variety of disciplines, including print, digital, direct mail, web (including email marketing)
  • Not only understands client briefs but suggests and influences course correction 
  • Oversees projects and makes sure everything is running smoothly, everybody understands their role on the project and there are no delays and misunderstandings; if they arise they actively solve them. 
  • Has a sense of ownership of any project on their team; any touchpoint with the client and the success or failure (on the design side) is their responsibility
  • Able to independently execute internal and external presentations
  • Strong positive impact and influence on the teams they are leading in addition to other teams in and outside of the department
  • Co-Leads internal meetings with the client's or project's CPM
  • Is able to identify workflow inefficiencies and comes up with creative ways of optimizing time spent on certain tasks or processes
  • Encourages adoption of new features and products and makes sure everyone on the assigned clients is trained 
  • Contributes to the positive team spirit, resolves conflicts, and looks for the team's wellbeing
  • Mentor to lower-level designers: communicates to the management team on mentee's performance and future growth/development opportunities
  • Expert in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, and Google Products (Slides, Docs, Sheets, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of WCAG/ADA accessibility regulations
  • Involved in the hiring process

The target base salary range for this position is $127,400 - $165,700, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
