We are currently searching for a Healthcare Integration Technical Lead/Lead Engineer to drive the technical development of integrations spanning API to API, HL7, and FHIR-based workflows. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with Product, Customer Success, and Engineering teams to understand customer needs and integration requirements. Your core responsibility will involve leading the implementation of interfaces that connect the CareMessage platform with external systems. Additionally, you will act as the team lead, overseeing the work of two senior engineers, while balancing individual contributions with initial management responsibilities. Initially, you will focus on individual contributions, dedicating approximately 30% of your time to management activities, with the potential to transition into a full-time engineering management role as our team expands.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on software engineering experience with JavaScript and one other programming language with at least 3 years of that experience in developing healthcare integrations leveraging common interoperability standards (FHIR and HL7)
  • Minimum of 2 years in supporting or in the direct management software engineers
  • Exceptional fundamentals of computer programming, including a good understanding of software development lifecycle, coding best practices, design patterns, object-oriented architecture, etc.
  • Experience working with mainstream EHRs such as Epic, eClinicalWorks, AthenaHealth, NextGen, etc.

Preferred experience

  • Experience with our Tech Stack: JavaScript/TypeScript/React, Rhapsody, Ruby on Rails, Postgres, GCP
  • Background in TDD engineering environments
  • Experience working closely with data teams, leveraging healthcare data and foundational data science concepts

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the management and oversight of 2 - 3 Integration Engineers
  • Support Team Rituals, including having 1:1s with team members to support and foster growth
  • Provide feedback and support the VP of Engineering with performance reviews
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and retention of top-tier engineering talent
  • Proficiency in designing, building, and maintaining integration workflows leveraging standard engineering best practices, leveraging applications like Rhapsody
  • Providing technical guidance and architecture to support the scalable development of healthcare integrations
  • Enforce documentation of generic and client-specific integration workflows, routes, and communication point configurations to ensure proper versioning, thorough testing for all variations, and an audit trail of changes
  • Provide technical training continually assuring capabilities for support teams to monitor and troubleshoot interfaces
  • Work with customers, partners, and other external technical resources to understand the integration requirements and implementation details of those workflows
  • Work closely with Product and Design teams to conceptualize and define impactful solutions, often through Product Requirements Documents (PRDs).
  • Support engineers in project management within your domain
  • Skillfully lead and facilitate essential team rituals, such as Kickoffs, Retrospectives, and Tech Debt Reviews
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to understand technical estimates and prioritize backlog items, making pragmatic tradeoffs when necessary
  • Develop processes, tools, and systems that enhance our team's overall effectiveness
  • Contribute to the team by participating in On-Call (PagerDuty) activities.

Within 1 Month You'll...

  • Have a working familiarity with CareMessage’s features and the API
  • Understand the Rhapsody Development Environment and our SDLC
  • Learn and follow CareMessage's integration standards, coding best practices and development processes
  • Establish rapport with Engineers on the team through Wiki contributions, 1:1s, Team Rituals, etc.

Within 3 Months You'll...

  • Be self-sufficient in completing tasks and have delivering upon Integration projects with wide-ranging impact
  • Gain a strong understanding of our technical environment and identify areas for growth in our processes, systems and/or tooling
  • Understand our Company Objectives and be able to articulate how Integrations directly impacts them

Within 6 Months You'll

  • Be noted as a technical leader by your peers and manager having developed strong trust and rapport with them
  • Have end-to-end ownership of the implementation of multiple integration projects
  • Contribute your expertise in one or more areas that drive value and impact within our engineering department (e.g., API improvements, automated testing strategies, etc.)
  • Contribute to the development of the Integrations roadmap and necessary team resourcing

$175,000 - $175,000 a year

Compensation Details

This role is currently set at a level four Individual Contributor, equivalent to someone who has held several engineering roles with some peer coaching and delivery management expectations or someone with strong technical background early in engineering management with related experience in engineering for several years and is extremely proficient in their craft.

Our salary allocation for this role is $175,000.
